The Idyllwild Arts Academy provides pre-professional training in the arts and a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum to a
diverse student body of gifted young artists from all over the world.
The Idyllwild Arts Summer Program provides arts instruction and experiences of the highest caliber to a diverse student population of
all ages and abilities.
Idyllwild is a small town located at over 5,000 feet on the western slopes of California’s San Jacinto Mountains. Even though it
seems far from the hustle and bustle of city life, the town and campus frequently hosts music festivals, prominent speakers and artists,
and community events. Also, it is only two hours by car to Los Angeles and San Diego.

Idyllwild Arts Academy welcomes experienced Moving Pictures faculty to teach a variety of subjects including
producing/pre-production, production (involving camera/cinematography, lighting, art direction, directing), and postproduction (involving editing and post-production programs such as after-effects and other programs in the Adobe
Creative suite).
This is a unique opportunity to join a boarding school community that focuses on pre-professional training for artists while
at the same time emphasizing the importance of academics. We are seeking an educator who will embrace and support
the arts, and appreciate the unique environment of Idyllwild, the Academy, and its diverse and talented students.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Moving Pictures position is a full time exempt position which reports to the Moving Pictures Chair. The Moving
Pictures faculty member should also have a strong working knowledge of all phases of production, as they will be required
to supervise student productions, ensuring safe-set protocol, advising students in all phases of production on mature
artistic decisions, and ensuring that productions are completed, adhering to Idyllwild’s pre-professional standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have the following qualifications:
EDUCATION
Required: an M.F.A. (Master in Fine Arts, in Film Production, or 5 or more years of relevant work experience in the film
industry. Teaching or instruction experience - preferably in an academic setting is a plus! High school teaching a bonus!
B.F.A. in Film Production, or 7+ or more years of relevant work experience in the film industry.
TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
1. Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Maya, Z-Brush (or similar VFX software), Moving Magic budgeting
and scheduling software, standard coverage and shot selection, modern cinematic lighting technique, art
direction, standard sound mixing, producing, and safe set practices
2. Experience living in a boarding community or experience with leading, instructing, and working with youths
3. Life experiences in travel, living and/or teaching abroad.
INSTRUCTION
Teaching
The areas of responsibility may include:
1. Teaching of approximately 18-25 classroom hours per week.
2. Teach courses in producing/pre-production, production (involving camera/cinematography, lighting, art direction,
directing) and post-production (involving editing and post-production programs such as after-effects, and other
programs in the Adobe Creative suite).
3. Supervise student productions, ensuring safe-set protocol and responsible equipment usage.
4. Advise moving pictures students in all phases of production on mature artistic decisions.
Administrative Duties/Requirements
The areas of responsibility may include:
1. Recruiting students for the program
2. Assisting students in college preparation and selection process
3. Attending faculty meetings.
4. Ability/flexibility to work some late nights and weekends as needed when projects are in production.
5. Advising a general core group of Academy students.
6. Moving pictures faculty members are required to supervise and assist students in classroom exercises, and
major productions, which can require heaving lifting, and safe assembly of camera and lighting equipment.
7. Assist with other administrative duties as needed, by the Moving Pictures Chair, Dean of Arts, Head of School
or President.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Ability and desire to work within the Idyllwild community, Riverside County, or commute a reasonable distance, that
does not impede on-time arrival during winter months.
Obtain and maintain a valid California Driver License, pass a criminal history background check as required by
California Education Code Section 44237, and pass a TB test.

While performing the duties of this position an incumbent is required to regularly remain sedentary for long
periods of time in meetings and while processing information and paper work both manually and on a computer.
Specific vision abilities include close, distance and color vision perception and the ability to adjust eye focus.
Reaching with the hands and arms and use of hands to finger, type, and manipulate a computer keyboard and
mouse is required.
The incumbent must be able to converse in clear English both written and orally, over a telephone and in person,
and be able to make public presentations.
Occasionally, incumbent may be required to lift 25 or more pounds, traverse uneven terrain and climb stairs while
moving about campus; bend and stoop, conduct tours and show visitors our campus facilities.
They may need to provide their own transportation for local and remote events.
Work hours vary and may include days, nights, and weekends.
