Go for Green Recommendations:
1. Determine color code (RED, AMBER, GREEN) for each menu item:
ARMED FORCES RECIPES:
First, check under food category on Go for Green Nutrient Analysis Spreadsheet.
If menu item is not listed, check nutrient analysis of recipe online at:
http://www.quartermaster.army.mil/ACES/publications/recipes/index/full_index.pdf and use table below to
determine color code.
OTHER RECIPES:
Use general guidelines on Go for Green Criteria to determine color.
If unclear about color code, attempt to get nutrient analysis from Nutrition Facts label on packaged
products or refer to similar Armed Forces recipe and use the following table to determine appropriate
color code:
GREEN
30% OR LESS
CALORIES FROM FAT*
ENTRÉE: and 550 calories or less
SIDE: and 225 calories or less
DESSERT: Low calorie/low fat
versions
BEVERAGE: Skim and 1% milk
Caffeine Free Diet Soda
AMBER
31-40%

Example: Meatloaf (18 grams fat x 9)/343 Calories = 162 calories from fat = 47% RED
2.
Post appropriate Go for Green ID card for each menu item at point of service.
a. Print and cut pages of GREEN, AMBER, and RED ID cards on card stock or laminate printed
cards.
b. Order card holders (Recommend HUBERT item # 32480 or similar item).
c. Consider using the Go for Green poster to increase awareness of program. You may also
revise and use the attached LRMC Go for Green marketing flyer.
