Mandatory Sentences
• Are court imposed penalties for any moving
violations occurring on public roadways.
• Some examples are;
• D.U.I., accumulation of points, failure to
provide insurance, driving while suspended,
Implied Consent Law
• Any person suspected of Driving Under The
Influence must submit to a Breath Test
• REFUSAL to take the test is equivalent to driving
with a B.A.C. of .10%
• Suspension 7 months to 1 year
• $300 to $500 fine
• Up to 30 days in jail
• You may still be found to be guilty of driving
under the influence
• Sentences may run concurrently of consecutively
based upon the judge’s order

How to Prevent Drunk Driving
Accidents
• Drink Responsibly
• Always have a designated driver
• Don’t get into a vehicle with someone under
the influence
• Be aware of your surroundings (whether or
not you have been drinking)
• DON’T DRIVE IF YOU’RE DRINKING!
Teen Drinking Statistics
• 40% of those who started drinking at age 14 or
younger later developed alcohol dependence, compared
with 10% of those who began drinking at age 20 or
older.
• Alcohol is the most commonly used drug among young
people.
• Traffic crashes are the greatest single cause of death
for all persons age 6–33. About 45% of these fatalities
are in alcohol-related crashes.
• Eight young people a day die in alcohol-related crashes.
POINT SYSTEM
• A Driver receives points on their license for
moving violations
• 2pts to 8pts may be given for a moving
violation
Speeding ( up to 10 mph over 2pts.), running
a stop sign, passing a stopped school bus(5
pts.) are examples

avoid a traffic control signal or sign
Point Accumulation and Reduction
• Accumulation of 12 pts. in a two year period
• Will result in a license suspension.
• Reduction- If you drive violation free for one year the state will
subtract 3 pts from your total.
• Attending driving school will also get you a reduction
•
Insurance surcharges - you will have to pay extra on your
Insurance premium for points on your record
• All fines an points are doubled for violations in a safe corridor or
construction zone.

State Test Library (D.U.I)
• Driving on public property to avoid a traffic control
signal or sign penalty:
• 2 point moving violation
• BAC level under 21 for D.U.I. is .01% this is the smallest
amount of BAC a person can have (don’t be fooled)
• Involved in an accident causing injury while driving with
a suspended license: More suspension, Fine, possible
JAIL
D.U.I.
• Fines for violations in a Safe Corridor or
construction work zone are DOUBLED.
• If your License is suspended you may not drive
for any reason until the suspension ends and your
license is restored
• The Probationary period after having your
license restored is 1 YEAR
D.U.I.
• You may get a fine for any of the following:
• Failure to remove snow and ice, leaving a vehicle
idling for more than 3 minutes, violating the move
over law
• Host liability law: if a person drinks too much in
your home an has an accident you can be involved
in `a lawsuit
