Council of Management
Anna Southall
Anna Southall has enjoyed a long and varied career in the
cultural sector, initially as a conservator at Tate Gallery, then
as Director of the National Museums of Wales and ultimately
Chief Executive of MLA, the Museums Libraries and
Archives Council. Since 1975 she has served on the boards
of a number of grant making bodies, both independent and
in the public sector. She chaired the Barrow Cadbury Trust
from 1996 to 2006, and remains their Lead Trustee for the
Young Adults and Criminal Justice programme. In 2004 she
joined the Board of the fledgling Big Lottery Fund, the
largest of the lottery distributors, becoming Vice Chair in
2006 until 2014 when, having served for 10 years, she
retired. Currently Vice Chair of the Wales Millennium Centre,
Anna also serves on the boards of a number of
organisations in Bristol where she lives; these currently
include Bristol Together (working with ex-offenders), the
Development Trust for Bristol Museums, and the Tobacco
Factory Theatre.
Jeremy Lewison
Jeremy Lewison is an independent curator and art
consultant. He organises exhibitions, writes on modern and
contemporary art and advises the Kadist Art Foundation,
Paris and the Estate of Alice Neel. Over the last four years
he has provided pro bono advice to Bristol Museum and Art
Gallery in the acquisition of contemporary art funded by Art
Fund International. His most recent exhibitions were Turner,
Monet Twombly: Later Paintings (shown in Stockholm,
Stuttgart and Liverpool) and Alice Neel: Painted Truths
(shown in Houston, London and Malmö). Jeremy began his
career as curator of Kettle's Yard, Cambridge and then
became a curator at the Tate Gallery, rising to the position of
Director of Collections. He left the Tate in 2002 to pursue an
independent career. Jeremy is also a Trustee of the Tricycle
Theatre, London.
Fiona Hallworth
Fiona Hallworth, daughter of a graphic designer and art
adviser, is Director of External Relations at Clifton College, a
post which interfaces with the business community and
active involvement in branding, event organisation,
networking and working proactively with significant third
sector organisations in the region. She has extensive
national and international experience of education as a
teacher, inspector, governor, trustee and management
consultant. She has in-depth experience of working in
multinational organisations, television and charities as well
as running her own small businesses. Her MBA background
has given her insight into businesses and charities at every
level and function. A graduate of Cambridge and recently of
Bristol Common Purpose, a keen photographer and amateur
artist she is delighted to be involved with the Arnolfini.
Jim McAuliffe
Jim McAuliffe is Financial Director of Bristol Airport, where
he has worked for the past 15 years. A Chartered
Accountant, Jim qualified with Ernst & Young, and spent 5
years in their Southampton and London offices, before
moving to hold a variety of finance and project management
roles in the services sector. These included spells at
Rentokil-Initial and Ladbroke, as well as 4 years with a
privately-owned financial services organisation, during which
time Jim spent 18 months working in France. Between 2008
and early 2012 Jim was also a Non- Executive Director of a
sizeable NHS
Trust in the South West. He is a committee member of the
Quartet Community Foundation, a charitable trust covering
the greater Bristol region. Jim is also on the Bristol Advisory
Board of Common Purpose, an international organisation
which
promotes leadership development across the public, private
and not-for-profit sectors. Jim is married with two daughters,
both of whom are studying art. He has a keen interest in the
visual arts.
Elena Hill
Elena Hill is creative director at Soda Film + Art Ltd.
(SoFA). SoFA is an international agency for artist film
production, distribution and sales. We act as a shop window
to the film world for artists, by offering a portfolio of services,
which help artists wishing to transition to feature filmmaking.
Soda Film + Art acts as a centralised bureau and creative
hub by taking care of all aspects of the film value chain for
artists and their filmic endeavours. This includes film
treatment and script development, talent pooling, finance,
international representation, sales and distribution, as well
as curating, liaising with artists, galleries & institutions,
publishing and online exploitation.
Elena has worked as an independent curator and producer
of artist film and video projects. From 2006 – 2010, Elena
was director AMIE – the artist moving image exhibition.
AMIE was produced in association with the Bath Film
Festival. Elena has ten years of board experience, having
sat on the board of Picture This and Bath Royal Literary and
Scientific Institution and the Titone Scholarship Foundation.
Elena’s strength to the board is her knowledge of
philanthropic giving. She works closely with Outset Uk.
Thomas Sheppard
Thomas Sheppard is the Executive Chairman of Thrings
solicitors, having first became a partner of the firm in 1980
and he has, over the intervening period, held a number of
both client facing and executive roles within Thrings,
including that of Managing Partner for ten years.
In his role as Executive Chairman, Thomas chairs the
Management Board, which oversees the business and
commercial decisions of the firm. His primary expertise is as
a Commercial Property lawyer with many years’ experience
in the property world both as an advisor and a client. He is
part of the Thrings highly successful Commercial Property
Department and he looks after the firm’s clients across the
range of transactional and advisory work.
Thomas holds many key client and referrer relationships,
taking particular interest in providing objective advice and
guidance to both established clients and those starting out to
build their businesses. Outside Thrings, Thomas holds office
with a number of public and charitable organisations.
Iain Canning
Iain Canning is a British film and television producer and cofounder of See-Saw Films. He has achieved enormous
international success and is perhaps best known for
producing The King’s Speech (2010) which won an Academy
Award© for Best Picture and a BAFTA for Best Film and Best
British Film. Other See-Saw Films productions include Shame
(2011), Top Of The Lake (2013) and Mr Holmes (2015). Prior
to founding See Saw Films, Canning was executive producer
for the critically acclaimed Hunger (2008) and Control (2007).
Canning grew up in Bristol and was an active participant in
the film and arts scene and a regular visitor to the Arnolfini.
