Three Fundamental Truths of Leadership

1. Leaders must ensure they lead in ways that demonstrate conviction, vision, connection and trust.

2. To survive and thrive in the world and global community, leaders must ensure values and practices of inter-relatedness, transparency, productivity and sustainability are ever present in their organizations.

3. The most powerful leaders are those who cultivate an inner sense of wholeness that arises from integrating the physical, mental, emotional and physical parts of self.

Wisdom Leaders Gifts and Talents

• Wisdom leaders possess the courage to exit their comfort zone to try new, unique and innovative ways to lead in order to change the working dynamics of their teams to get breakthrough results.

• They know that as leaders, fundamental change begins with their own personal willingness and ability to make shift in beliefs, attitudes, behaviors and positions that get in the way of progress.

• They utilize extraordinary listening skills that often uncover the unacknowledged important messages and facilitate deep connections between people and trustful, lasting alliances.

• Share their love and passion for their vision in ways that inspire others to contribute in meaningful ways.

• They are committed to teach, mentor and pass on their wisdom and capabilities to the next generation to empower them to continue successful and sustainable futures.

• They possess a far-sighted view and an understanding of the global interdependence of things and consider these in their decisions and actions.

• They bring forth their courage and convictions in ways that cultivate confidence and a sense of calm when ambiguity arises and no immediate answers are apparent.

• They are flexible and resilient in the midst of unexpected setbacks and surprising changes.

• They view communication mainly as conversation in which relationships are formed to build understanding, focus on opportunities and possibilities, and prevent and/or recover from breakdowns and conflicts.

• They view leadership as something you do with people and not to them.

Wisdom Wheel

Offers a way for teams and organizations to ensure appropriate attention and balance to elements of productivity, transparency, interdependence, and sustainability in their corporate mindset, communication and decision making.

Each of the four aspects of the Wisdom Wheel is called a shield.

Healthy, authentic individuals, and successful organizations possess a balanced reflection of the integration of all of the

Four Shields.

To the right are models of the Wisdom Wheel applying individual, leader, and organization frameworks.

The AWC Process

• The Council Process ensures that groups work together to make certain the best possible decisions and plans are considered, implemented and supported.

• The Council Process is unique and more powerful than a traditional business meeting because:

• A slower pace yields better decisions and results. All the implications of a challenge are discussed before a decision is made and implementation comes faster. Since everyone has opportunity to speak, they feel engaged in the results.

• Deep Listening is equally, if not more, important than talking. Reserving judgment and suspending one’s position ensures that more information and knowledge is received by the listener.

• Inquiry, not advocacy, is emphasized. Positions are discussed only as points of view. The secret to knowing the right answers is to ask the right questions.

• Decisions made must serve the interests of the entire group over any self-interests.

• Decisions are made clear and feel important because of the structure of council.
