Store Manager for Hugs + Mugs Hugs + Mugs is a retail and online store which operates as a career skills training program for adults with Down syndrome, supported by trained volunteers. Hugs + Mugs offers adults an 18-week internship to gain work skills and experience before transitioning to community-based employment. Founded in 2003, GiGi’s Playhouse’s mission is to increase positive awareness of Down syndrome through national campaigns, free educational programs, and by empowering individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community. The Store Manager will supervise staff, volunteers and adult participants with Down syndrome; will meet customer needs and plan/ coordinate sales, merchandising and budgeting. In order to effectively perform the multitude of tasks required, the manager must work well under pressure and be able to manage multiple priorities at once. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in retail business management and human resources, as well as strong leadership and multitasking skills, the ability to be adaptive and flexible, and work effectively in a team environment. The Store Manager is responsible for the following: Store Operations and Finance: Completes store operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results. Maintains store operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures. Documents changes to policies and procedures as needed. Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions when needed. Analyzes operating and financial statements to ensure profitability ratios. Identifies current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers and other persons in a position to understand service requirements. Maintains the financial stability and reputation of the brand by complying with financial and legal requirements. Staff Supervision and Staff Development: Maintains a high-quality store staff that carries out the mission of GiGi’s Playhouse and Hugs + Mugs. Recruits, selects, orients and trains employees, volunteers and college interns. Monitors staff job performance by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. Merchandise and Pricing: Ensures availability of merchandise and services by maintaining inventories, completing purchase orders and ensuring contracts are approved. Secures merchandise by implementing security systems and measures. Formulates pricing policies by reviewing merchandising activities, determining additional needed sales promotions, authorizing clearance sales and studying trends. Implements and follows procedures for safe food preparation, assembly, and presentation (ex: smoothies, coffee, etc.) Marketing and Advertising: Effectively markets the store via social media, networking and direct mail. Determines the need for marketing strategy changes by reviewing operating and financial statements and departmental sales records. Effectively markets store merchandise by studying advertising, sales promotion, and display plans. Other Duties: Protects employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies. Contributes to the team-oriented work environment by accomplishing collaborative goals and meeting team and personal deadlines. Skills/Qualifications: Customer Focus, Tracking Budget Expenses, Pricing, Vendor Relationships, Market Knowledge, Staffing, Results Driven, Strategic Planning, Management Proficiency, Client Relationships, Written and Verbal Communication Desired Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have the following skill sets and qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Marketing, Finance or a related field, with 2 years experience in Retail Management OR Bachelor’s degree with 5 years experience in Retail Management. A strong background in graphic design is highly preferred Very strong computer skills Minimum two years supervisory experience Experience in the food industry is a must Schedule and Availability: The Operations Manager position is a full-time position. The schedule will be based on the hours of store operation, approximately 8:30AM- 5:00PM, Monday through Friday with occasional weekend work. These hours are subject to change.
