Conley Elementary School Extended Day Program 2015-2016 School Year EDEP Manager: Tracey Turner Mission Statement It is the mission of Conley Extended Day Enrichment Program to provide services for students and parents incorporating an academically, socially, and culturally rich environment to extend learning experiences through the use of critical thinking skills and hands on activities, while providing guidance and safety for all participants. Before School activities consist of Mensa, Plexers, Brain teaser games, and educational apps that will encourage students to use their critical thinking skills. After School The Conley Elementary After School Program offers a variety of Enrichment activities for our PreK–5th grade students to engage in each afternoon. One day out of the week students in Grades 1st -5th will work on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The EDEP staff will select enrichment classes for students. The enrichment classes consist of hands-on projects, experiments, games, and clubs. Each enrichment class will last 8 to 10 weeks. Students will rotate enrichment groups which is different for each grade level. ❑ Monday: Technology ❑ Tuesday: Science ❑ Wednesday: Engineering ❑ Thursday: Math ❑ Friday: Fun Day Fun Friday Every Friday student’s will participate in special activities that will consist of fun games and activities related to STEM. However, once a month we will have Fun Friday, a themebased party for the entire program. These parties will include arts & crafts, venders, competitions, obstacle courses, shop for prizes, carnival food and games related to STEM. Parents are welcome to attend Fun Friday’s. Center Choices Students will participate in different Centers after Enrichment Classes. These center choices are: ❑ Arts & Crafts: duct tape art, coloring, drawing, fuse beads, etc. ❑ Music: piano, song writing, karaoke, freeze dance, cheerleading etc. ❑ Recreational Activities: basketball, football, kickball, wiffleball, etc. ❑ Cultural Arts/ Foreign Language ❑ IPad/Computers – fun educational websites, etc. ❑ Games – group games, board games, activity games, etc. • STEM Enrichment Classes Math Mania – • • • Students will use the scientific method to complete science experiments. Grades 1-5 Students will learn about calories & create healthy foods. Grades 4 - 5 Only – • Students will learn about forecast, radars and other weather concepts. Grades 1-5 Brilliant Scientist – Students will complete activities that involve the use of microscopes. Grades 1-5 Students will create robots as well as different objects such as machines and structures. Grades 1-5 Kitchen Chemistry – • Students will have the opportunity to learn about different STEM occupations through research and scrapbooking. Grades 1 - 5 Inventors Club – • Students will complete online activities and learn more about technology and 3D drawing. Grades 1-5 When I Grow Up Students will use products to build or create different types of transportation. Grades 1-5 Weather Wonders – • • Students will learn about different animals characteristics, history, and anatomy. Grades 1-5 Tech Mania – Automotive Action Club – • Students will participate in teams to collect miscellaneous items to discover a more complete understanding STEM. Grades 1- 4 Only – Nutrition Club – • Students will play games relating to math and participate in activities that utilizes their math skills. Grades 1-5 • Students will explore and complete experiments using magnets and static science. Grades 1-5 Animal Club Big Bang Theory – • • Scavenger Hunt – Magnetic Club – Students will complete puzzles, and different activities containing math. Grades 1-5 Math Money – • Students will follow recipes to measure food using scales and cups. Students will complete experiments with different gas, solids and liquids. Grades 3-5 S.S.T.R.I.D.E. Club – Mentors from FSU College of Medicine tutor students and complete hands on activities to help prepare students for Fairview IB program. 5th Grade Only Pre-K & K-Club STEM Enrichment Classes Conley Elementary Extended Day Program appreciates all your support!
