Membership and Leadership Plan May 8, 2013 The Newark Arts Education Roundtable (NAER) Our mission is to collaborate to ensure that all children PreK – 12th grade in the city of Newark have equitable access to high quality, sequential arts education opportunities, both in and out of school. Who are our constituents? Public, charter, and private schools Arts and cultural organizations Youth and community development entities Funders Businesses State and local government agencies Why Membership? To be a part of the organized effort to ensure that all children in the city of Newark have equitable access to high quality, sequential arts education opportunities both in and out of school. Ability to serve on a committee and/or be eligible for election to governance team (Newark Arts Education Leadership Council) Voting privileges Membership Dues Individual $35 School $75 Organizational Budgets under $1,000,000 $100 Organizational Budgets over $1,000,000 $250 The Newark Arts Education Roundtable (NAER) Convene quarterly to share new developments in Newark schools, professional development opportunities and best practices in arts education Serve on committees: Advocacy, Evaluation, Professional Development and Communications Member Participation Member organizations can have up to three representatives participate on the Roundtable. Each organization is allotted one vote, regardless of representatives Member Participation (cont.) If an organization serves on a committee then it is important that the same representative participate in all committee-related meetings or events. Consistent attendance is expected of organization representatives. Potential Membership Perks In discussion: Peer exchange 3rd party evaluation Access to professional development offered by member organizations Exclusive invitations to local events Member discounts to arts performances Newark Arts Education Leadership Council (NAELC) Structure Governance team comprised of 17 members (9 appointed and 8 elected). This will provide opportunities for NAER members to assume positions of leadership. Dues-paying members of record as of August 7, 2013 are eligible candidates for the NAELC. Newark Arts Education Leadership Council (NAELC) Structure Elections for the NAELC will take place in September. Term: 2 years NAELC members are required to attend 8-12 meetings annually (bimonthly NAELC meetings and quarterly NAER Meetings) Newark Arts Education Leadership Council (NAELC) Participation NAELC members must demonstrate: a commitment to the vision of the NAER a willingness to serve as a committee chair and/or as a member of the Executive Committee NAELC Appointed Members 1. Neither the President nor the Vice President shall be elected from the appointed members of the NAELC.
