Ryan Klemm Pamplin College of Business is ranked top 50 in Undergraduate business program by U.S news, and holds a prestigious title among public schools in America. Within the College of business, 8 majors are offered ranging from Accounting to Marketing, with every field of business covered in-between. My research throughout the many majors that are associated within the Pamplin College of Business have led me to many conclusions. It has allowed me to narrow down certain majors that might interest me, as well as allow me to recognize the majors that I should stay away from. Overall the purpose of this assignment is to allow the research to aid you with selecting a major that best fits you, so I will start by stating the selection I have made for my major of interest, and then continue with why this was chosen and what other majors I potentially thought of. After thorough research, I was able to conclude that the major I came into college with is the one that I am going to stick with; that being a finance Major. Finance is ranked number 1 for undergraduate programs within the Pamplin College of Business, as well as 2nd in job recruitments. As stated on the Virginia Tech website “The undergraduate program in finance, insurance, and business law is designed to suit the requirements of students intending to have specialized careers in various aspects of financial management.” Financial management or wealth advising is exactly what I want to do in the future, and therefore this major fits that description best and will prepare me to excel in that field. Another major I was interested in was Business Information Technology. This is a relatively new major, but has hit the “scene” hard. It is expected that by 2020 more than 828,000 job opportunities will become available, and therefore is going to be a highly recognized major. Computers have always fascinated me, and I have spent countless hours studying them inside and out. The relation is that this major has a heavy emphasis on computer technology in a business atmosphere, and therefore I feel I would fit in comfortably with this major. A last major that I found interest in after my research was within the Marketing field. I have always had a way with persuasion, as well as a knack for selling things. After researching this major I was able to see that a large part of marketing has to do with those two aspects, and therefore I feel like I would have a heavy interest in the job fields that come with the completion of this major. Overall, through this research I have found many majors that interest me that may lead me to double major, however I have concluded that a Finance major is still the best fit for me, and I look forward to following that path throughout my next 4 years at Virginia Tech.
