International Investment & Business Development Consultants
RIT can help you enter the Japan market yet avoid the
traditional high cost of entry.
RIT can promote your company’s interests in Japan as though
you had established a Representative Office in Tokyo.
Why Japan now?
Japan remains in the economic doldrums. The only question
is, “When will the economy start a prolonged recovery?”
International investors are moving back into the Tokyo stock
market as well as the Japan bond and commercial real estate
markets.
Japan remains the world’s second-largest national economy
and perhaps its most advanced technology manufacturing
center. In Japanese fashion the institutions of the nation are
addressing the residual financial effects of the “bubble
economy”, which collapsed in 1991.
Japan Internet use continues to grow rapidly, particularly for
wireless devices. Corporate Japan is online and has not lost
its appetite for leading technology and financial products especially North American ones. Globalization is here.
Now is a great time to crank up your investment and
business development efforts in Japan.
The traditional approach to Japan market
entry is to relocate a company manager and
family to Tokyo; lease an office, sedan and
Western style apartment; then hire local
Japanese bilingual staff. As Tokyo remains one
of the most expensive cities in the world in
which to work and live, this approach requires
a significant front-end entry fee.
Getting started with an established, in-country
Representative or Consultant is a proven
alternative to the traditional approach. You
can quickly establish an effective presence and
start doing business in Japan. You can avoid
the costs and administrative distractions of
starting from scratch. Let us tell you about RIT
and how we can help.

Ready for Japan?
The Japan business market is tough. Here are some questions designed to help
you decide whether you think your company is ready for it.
1.Has the company done business in Japan? With what results?
2.How strong is its commitment to enter/stay in this market?
3.Succinctly describe the prospect product line in technical terms. In
marketing terms. Wonder how these will translate into the Japanese
language and culture?
4.Where is the product in its technology life cycle? Is there a technology
refreshment commitment?
5.What are the product’s main sales points? Is it world class?
6.To whom has the product been marketed in North America? For how
long?
7.What is the product’s market share? Competitors?
8.Has the product been marketed internationally? Which countries? What
results?
9.Has the product been localized for international markets? To what extent?

Japan Calendar
Japan Business Calendar. Corporate offices are typically closed on weekends,
though only Sundays are designated as holidays. There are three periods
annually when the pace of business slows due to holidays and traditional
vacation periods.
New Year’s. Corporate offices will be closed from several days before to several
days after 1 January 2002. Air travel to and from Japan will be very
heavy. Recommend you try to avoid business travel to Japan from midDecember 2001 to mid-January 2002.
Golden Week. Festivities focus on family/children. Air travel to and from Japan
will be heavy. Recommend you avoid business travel to Japan the last week of
April and the first week of May 2002.
Obon Festival. Most Japanese families take vacation and visit ancestral
homes. Companies tend to arrange staggered vacations so that offices remain
open. Air travel to/from Japan will be heavy. Recommend you try to avoid
business travel to Japan during the period 6-19 August 2002.
