REPORT FOR THE PERIOD
FROM JUNE 2013 TO NOVEMBER 2013
I. BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION:
The institutional Based Rehabilitation Project run by “ SEED “ for the welfare of the children of LIFE
PRISONERS, VICTIMS OF SERIOUS CRIMES LIKE MURDER and LEPROSY PATIENTS commenced its
yeomen service activities in January, 1982. SEED has supported the education of such children from
the year 2002. For the current year 2013-14, this project is providing support to 224 children – in need
of – care & protection in the age group of 6-18 years. SEED runs its activities in two villages of
Sriperumbudur Taluk (Kancheepuram District) namely Venkatrangam Pillai Chatiram and
Irungattukottai Village and in one village of Poonamallee Taluk at Tiruvellore District namely Utkottai
Village. The project activities are implemented with the direct support of 27 Professional and 6 non
professional staff members who carry out grass root level, supervisory and managerial jobs.
II. HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 2013 TO NOVEMBER 2013:
The main activity of SEED is to provide institutional care which will enable the children of Life Prisoners
and Leprosy Patients to free themselves from their existing way of Life and lead a simple life with
dignity.
The children for the academic year 2013-14 belong to various categories as mentioned in the following

IV. HIGHER STUDIES:
 M.Suresh, whose father died, secured 411/500 marks in Secondary School Leaving
Certificate examination ( X Std. ) conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu. He got
admission for XIth Standard in a renowned School in Namakkal District. It is one of the best
schools in Tamilnadu State from where the students get admission
Engineering courses on merit.

 S. Ajith, whose father was a Life Prisoner in Vellore Central Prison, obtained 363/500 marks
in Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination ( X Std. ) conducted by the Government
of Tamil Nadu. He got admission in Diploma Course in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
in a well known Polytechnic College in Kancheepuram District
S.Elumalai , whose Father died, secured 401/500 marks in Secondary School Leaving
Certificate examination ( X Std. ) conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu. He got
admission in XIth Standard in his native place.
 P.Praveenkumar , whose mother died, secured 390/500 marks in Secondary School Leaving
Certificate examination ( X Std. ) conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu. He got
admission in XIth Standard in his native place.
 G.Nithyanandham), who had lost his mother at his early childhood and whose father
deserted him at his infant stage, obtained 389/500 marks in Secondary School Leaving
Certificate examination ( X Std. ) conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu. He got
admission in Diploma Course in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in a well known
Polytechnic College in Kancheepuram District.
 J.Rajesh), whose father is a Life Prisoner in Puzhal Central Prison, obtained 263/500 marks
in Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination ( X Std. ) conducted by the Government
of Tamil Nadu. He got admission in XIth Standard in his native place.
 M.Dharmaraj is a single parent child. He obtained 247/500 marks in Secondary School
Leaving Certificate Examination
(X Std.) conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
He got admission in Catering Technology in his native place.
 M.Kowsalya, whose mother was a Life Prisoner in Special Prison for Women - Vellore,
obtained 390/500 marks in Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination ( X Std. )
conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu. She got admission in XIth in standard in a
renowned School in Namakkal District. It is one of the best schools in Tamilnadu State
from where the students get admission in Medical and Engineering courses on merit.
 M.Manikandan is a single parent child. He obtained 265/500 marks in Secondary School
Leaving Certificate Examination ( X Std. ) conducted
by the Government of Tamil Nadu. He got admission
in Government Industrial Training Institute in his
native place.

A.Premkumar, whose father is a Life
Prisoner in Trichy Central Prison. He obtained
277/500 marks in Secondary School Leaving
Certificate Examination ( X Std. ) conducted by the
Government of Tamil Nadu. He got admission in

V. EDUCATION:
 R.Kesavaraj, studying 10th Standard , whose father is a Leprosy patient, getting 1st rank in
his class in all examinations.
 R.Pushparaj, studying 9th standard, whose father is a Life Prisoner in Cuddalore Central
Prison, is showing outstanding performance in all his examinations. He is getting First
Rank in his class.
 G.Vignesh, studying 8th standard, whose father was a Life Prisoner in Coimbatore Central
Prison,is showing outstanding performance in all his examinations. He is getting First
Rank in all the examinations in his class.
 D.Rajiv Gandhi, studying 7th standard ,
whose father is a Life Prisoner in Cuddalore
Central Prison, is a good studious student.
He is getting First rank in his class.
 S.Ramar, studying 6th standard, father is a
Life Prisoner in Cuddalore Central Prison, is
a good studious student. He is getting
Firsts Rank in his class.
 N.Kavin, studying 1st standard , whose
Mother is a Life Prisoner in Special Prison
for Women - Vellore , is a good studious student, got A 1 grade in his class in quarterly
examination, held in the month of September 2013

 A.Paandiselvi, studying 7th Standard, whose father is a Life Prisoner at Madurai Central
Prison, got A 1 grade in her class in quarterly examination, held in September, 2013.
 T.Kalaiyarasi, studying 8th Standard, whose father is a Life Prisoner at Trichy Central
Prison, got A grade in her class in quarterly examination, held in September 2013.
 S.Vijaya, studying 9th Standard, whose mother is a Life Prisoner at Trichy Central Prison
due to death of her father, is shining bright in her education and also in allied activities.
She secured A1 Grade in her class in Quarterly Examination, held in September, 2013.
 V.Muthulakshmi, studying 10th Standard, whose father was a life Prisoner at Trichy Central
Prison, is a brilliant student both in education and extra-curricular activities. She got 2nd
rank in her class in Quarterly Examination, held in September, 2013.
 A. Kowsalya, studying 10th Standard , whose father is a Life Prisoner at Madurai Central
Prison, is a brilliant student both in education and extra-curricular activities. She got 1st
rank in her class in Quarterly Examination, held in September, 2013.

Special coaching classes were conducted for English Grammar & Maths to prepare the X std.
students for their Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination. Teachers from Ganesh
Bai Galada Girsl Higher Secondary School, Mint Street, Chennai, and the Staff volunteers
from DELL and DELPHI - TVS came forward to conduct this programme.
 Computer Training is given to all our Primary and High School children with six new computers,
donated by “DELL”. “HOPE FOUNDATION”, a renowned International Voluntary Organisation,
sent a professionally qualified staff to conduct this training programme.
 In our Sriperumbudur Mahatma Gandhi Primary School and Utkottai Mahatma Gandhi High
School , Quarterly Examination was conducted in the month of September, 2013.
VI. SPORTS AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
 R.Pushparaj, studying 9th standard, whose father is a Life Prisoner in Cuddalore Central Prison,
had won the first prize in Chess Tournament, conducted by “SIRAGUGAL” on 14.07.2013.
 S.Ramar, studying 6th standard, whose father is a Life Prisoner in Cuddalore Central Prison, had
participated and won 1st Prize in ‘Shotput’ Competition, conducted by “SIRAGUGAL” on
14.07.2013.

 M.Paandi, studying 7th standard, is a single parent child. He had participated in Debating
competition, conducted by the SIRAGUGAL organization at Chennai on 04.08.2013 and won 2nd

 G.Manikandan , studying 6th Standard, who lost both the parents, had won 1st Prize in ‘Solo
Dance’ Competition conducted by ‘SIRAGUGAL’ on 14.07.2013.
 R.Mohankumar, studying 5th Standard , whose father is a Leprosy Patient, won 1st Prize in 100
meters Running Competition , conducted in our Mahatma Gandhi Primary School during
Gandhi Birthday Celebration, held on 2nd October, 2013.
 R.Tamilvalavan, studying 5th Standard, whose Father is a Leprosy Patient, won 2nd prize in 100
meters Running Race Competition , conducted in our Mahatma Gandhi Primary School during
Gandhi Birthday Celebration, held on 2nd October, 2013.


 R.Hariharan, studying 5th standard, whose father is a Leprosy
patient, won 2nd Prize in Running Race Competition,
conducted by SIRAGUGAL.
 S.Janani, studying 10th Standard, whose father is a Life
Prisoner in Trichy Central Prison, won 1st prize in Rangoli
competition , conducted by SIRAGUGAL at Chennai.
 S.Vijaya , studying 9th Standard, whose mother is a Life
Prisoner in Special Prison for Women - Tiruchy, won 1st Prize
in Running Competition conducted by Govt. Hr. Sec. School
for Girls – Sriperumbudur.
She also won 4th prize in District Level Drawing Competition
conducted by the Chief Educational Officer, Kancheepuram
District.
 A.Kowsalya , studying 10th standard, whose father is a Life Prisoner in Madurai Central Prison ,
got First Prize in Chess Competition, conducted by Govt. Hr. Sec. School for Girls –
Sriperumbudur.
VII. CELEBRATIONS:

On 11th July, 2013, Thiru Rm. Meenakashisundaram , General Manager,
Canara bank, Chennai Circle had kindly taken part in the New Hostel Building
Opening Function at our SEED – Utkottai Centre as the Chief Guest and
opened the building in the
esteemed presence of Mr. Auray Aun, Programme Director, Association
Soeur Emmanuelle
( ASMAE ), France, and the dignitaries from the
Village Panchayat. Tmt. Pushpalatha Sathiskumar, President, Kuthambakkam
Village Panchayat, presided over the function.
Thiru Louis Sahayaraj, Coordinator, Tamilnadu Asmae, Thiru N. Karunanithi,
Poonamallee Panchayat Union Councillor, Tmt. Valli Arumugam, Vice
President, Kuthambakkam Village Panchayat, had felicitated this function.
Our children offered many cultural programmes. The General Managaer,
Canara Bank enjoyed and appreciated the talents of the children along with
other dignitaries and visitors.
 Mr.K,Kamaraj, former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, is popularly known as “Perunthalaivar”
(The great Leader). His birth anniversary was celebrated in a grand manner as Education
Development Day (Kalvi Valarchi Naal) at our Utkottai and Sriperumbudur Centres.
 On 15th August, 2013, Independence Day was celebrated in our Mahatma Gandhi Primary
School in which Sriperumbudur Town Panchayat President Mrs. Parimala Kumar took part as
the Chief Guest and hoisted our National Flag and grace the occasion.
 In the same manner, the Independence Day was celebrated in our Mahatma Gandhi High
School in a grand Manner at our Utkottai Centre. Mrs. Pushpalatha Sathish Kumar, the
President of Kuthambakkam Village Panchayat, hoisted the National flag and gave a Special
Lecture for our students in the title “ Importance of Education. ”
 On September 28, 2013 we went to Special Prison for Women, Puzhal and got admission of 3
children of Life Prisoner R.Vijaya , who is imprisoned there due to death of her husband.
 On 5th September 2013, “Teacher’s Day” (His Excellency Dr. Radhakrishnan’s - Our former
President of India - Birth day) was celebrated in our Mahatma Gandhi Primary School and
Mahatma Gandhi High School. Children of both the centers participated in many competitions
and Prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions. Teachers of both the centers
were honored by the students.
 On September 28, 2013, the staff members of Delphi-TVS , Oragadam visited our Utkottai
project and planted trees including coconut, teak and casuarinas.
 On 2nd October 2013, Gandhiji’s Birthday was celebrated in our Mahatma Gandhi Primary and
High School in which parents of our children took part and grace the occasion. Many
competitions were conducted in both the centers on Gandhiji and Prizes were distributed to
the winners.
 On 13th & 14th October, 2013, ‘Educational Tour’ Program was conducted and our children
were taken to various places which includes beautiful hill station Kodaikanal.
 On 07th November, 2013, ‘Vigilance Awareness Programme’ was conducted at our Utkottai
Centre.
 On 14th November 2013, Children’s Day was celebrated in our organization in a grand manner
in which children of both the centers have eagerly participated in the Literary Events and
Sports Competitions and prizes were distributed to the successful candidates .
VIII. Medical Support Provided to Children:
 On 14.08.2013, Maduramangalam Primary
Health Centre visited our School . They took
classes on health education to our children and
administered DT Injection to all our children.
 On 15.07.2013 and 24.10.2013, Blood Test
Camp was conducted in connection with Anti
Filaria Campaign by the Department of Fileria
Eradication at our Sriperumubudur Centre for
our children and medical advice was given to
the students. They also conducted ‘Health
Education’ classes to our children.
 On 08.08.2013, Saveetha Dental College conducted “School Health Programme” in which
medical advice was given about the dental related diseases and important health tips were
also offered to the children of our Mahatma Gandhi Residential High School at our Utkottai
Centre.
 On 16.08.2013 Saveetha Medical College conducted General health Checkup at our SEED –
Sriperumbudur Centre and gave lecture on personal cleanliness .
 On 21.09.2013, Staff from Primary Health Centre – Nemam,
visited our Mahatma Gandhi Residential High School.
They conducted special health check up camp and
administered Tetanus Injection to all our children.
 O.Ajith, affected by Allergy, was admitted in Sri
Ramachandra Medical College & Hospital for 8 days
from 01.08.2013 to 08.08.2013 and got cured.
 R.Varadharaj was admitted in Sri Ramachandra Medical
College & Hospital for 8 days from 06.09.2013.2013 to
14.09.2013 and got an operation for tumor and cured.
 D.Rajiv Gandhi was admitted in Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Hospital for 6 days from
07.10.2013.2013 to 12.10.2013 due to dengue fever and got cured.
 R.Karthikeyan was being admitted in Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Hospital for 10 days
from 13.11.2013.2013 to 22.11.2013 for bone dislocation problem and got cured.
 R.Vasuki
was admitted in Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Hospital for 5 days from
05.10.2013 to 11.10.2013 for Throat infection problem and got cured.
 G.Mohana was admitted in Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Hospital for 5 days from
24.09.2013 to 28.09.2013 for swelling of hand and legs and also for fever and now she is
cured.
IX MEETING:
 “ Parents meeting ” was conducted on 1st Sunday of Every month in both the centers of SEED
in which the progress of the children were discussed including their achievements in
education and extra-curricular activities and also their overall development.
 “ Staff Meeting ” was conducted on 2nd Saturday of Every month in both the centers of SEED
and various activities of all the projects of ‘ SEED ’ and the problems faced by the staff,
children and the organization were discussed and suggestions were offered from all corners
and solutions were found out to solve the problems.
X GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL VISIT:
 On July 08,2013, the Assistant Elementary Educational Officer had visited our Mahatma
Gandhi Primary School and offered suggestion for the development of the children in
education and extra – curricular activities.
 On 7th September, 2013, the Tahsildar of Sriperumbudur Taluk, had visited our SEED Sriperumbudur Centre and inspected building and issued Building license Certificate
 On October 16, 2013, the Tahsildar of Poonamallee Taluk, had visited our SEED - Utkottai
Centre and inspected building and issued a Building license Certificate .
 On October 22, 2013, Child welfare Committee of Thiruvallur district had visited our Utkottai
project and verified maintenance of all records and inspected basic facilities which includes
Food shelter to our Home and issued certificates for the children to keep them in our SEED Leo Correya Home.
 On 8th November District Social Welfare officer, Thiruvallore District, had visisted in our SEED
– Utkottai Home, and verified maintenance of all records and inspected basic facilities which
includes Food shelter to our Home and advised to Develop the Facilities of Home.
.
 On 16th November 2013, the Tahsildar of Sriperumbudur Taluk, visitred our Sriperumbudur
home and verified maintenance of all records and inspected basic facilities provided to the
children which includes Food, Shelter, Clothing & medical facilities available for the children
and also health and hygiene maintained at both the centers .
 On 17th & 30th August, 2013, 16th September,2013 and November 22, 2013, the Assistant
Elementary Educational Officer had visited our Mahatma Gandhi Primary School and
appreciated the inherent talents of our children and offered his valuable suggestions to
improve the quality of education provided in our institution which includes the personal
attention on the development of the dull students .
XI UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION :
2 Sets of new School Uniform clothes were distributed to our children at the beginning of the
academic year ( i.e ) June, 2013. The students regularly wear the uniform during the school hours.
XII SCHOOL BUS FACILITIES:
Students of our Sriperumbudur Centre, those who are studying in the Government Girls’ Higher
Secondary School are taken to their school everyday morning from our Sriperumbudur Centre and
brought back to SEED in the evening with the Mini School Bus available with SEED which helps
them to save time and concentrate in their education.
XIII LIBRARY :
Librariers at Sriperumbudur & Utkottai Centres are being effectively used by the SEED Children.
They are encouraged to spent some time in the Library and read the books to improve their
knowledge which includes participation in the Inter – School Quiz Competition by acquiring
knowledge with the help of the General Knowledge Books available in our Library.
XIV. IMPORTANT MILESTONES IN THE ACHIEVEMENTS
OF ORGANIZATION DURING THIS HALF YEAR:

As a first time in the history of
SEED, M. Mahadevi, whose
guardian was a Life Prisoner in
Madurai Central Prison, got admission
in M.Sc.(Nursing) Course on merit in
Sri Ramachandra Medical University,
one of the leading institutions in India
in imparting medical education.








As first time in the history of SEED, four children of SEED ( two girls and two
boy ) are studying higher secondary course, after successfully completing their
school final year from SEED, in a renowned and leading educational institution
in Tamilnadu State which pave the way for their entry in professional courses.
One child joined in Mechanical Engineering, another child joined in
Automobile Engineering and two children joined in Electronics Communication
Engineering courses in the leading Polytechnic Colleges in Tamilnadu State. All
of them have secured good marks in their school final year examination .
SEED has been recognized selected as the member in the Governing Body of
the Advanced Training Institute for Teacher Education, an autonomous
institution of the Government of Tamilnadu, providing higher education in
teacher training.
In Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School at Sriperumbudur where our
girl children are studying, there are four sections in X Standard. In all the four
sections, our children are the top scorers. One of our children, A. Kousalya,
whose father is a Life Prisoner in Madurai Central Prison, secured 1st Rank
among all the four sections of the 10th Standard (School Final Year Course).
A. Kousalya also obtained 1st prize in the inter school Quiz Competition,
conducted in Union Level.
Jayajothi, whose guardian was a Life Prisoner in Madurai Central Prison, is an
engineer, working in a multi national company and travelling throughout the
world, has become a permanent resident in Canada. He has recently visited
SEED on 14th October, 2013 along with his wife and children and donated an
amount of Rs. 5000/- . It shows his gratitude to the institution which is the
route cause for his success in his carrier.
Thankaraj, whose father was a Life Prisoner In Vellore Central Prison, is an
mechanical engineer , working in Tanzania in Africa, came to SEED with his
wife and children on 15th October, 2013 and contributed Rs.5000/- and
expressed his willingness to contribute another Rs.40,000/- to SEED for some
project which is the ray of hope for the yeomen service rendered by SEED for
more than three decades.
To meet part of the expenses incurred for our SPECIAL & FREE INDUSTRIAL
TRAINING INSTITUTE, “CANAR A BANK”, a renowned banking industry in India,
has created an endowment for Rs.25/- Lacs and released the interest portion
of the above said endowment amount once in a quarter. Now, this
endowment has been increased as Rs.50/- Lacs as per the direction given by
the Chairman & Managing Director of CANARA BANK, who
The above few lines have brought to the light the activities carried on and the achievements attained
by SEED during the half year June, 2013 – November, 2013 which may be like drops in a ocean. So
many kind hearted people, Private and Public institutions, Government Departments and above all,
the dedicated team of staff , parents and the children are the root cause for the success of SEED’s
service to humanity which will continue and reflects in SEED’s Annual Report for the year 2013-2014.
