Getting Started
UTA Upward Bound Objective
Steps to Success
Integrating Technology into Program
Objectives
OBJECTIVE: Provide mentoring activities during the
academic year component that will improve the
participant’s self-concept, motivational level, and
awareness of educational and career opportunities.
Relationship to Purpose: Since many of the participants are not aware of
educational and career opportunities, it is our goal to expose them to
various opportunities that will not only allow the participants to see
themselves in their aspiring career, but to also improve their selfconcept and motivational skills.
Major Activity: Mentor program (Special Clubs) will meet once every
month during the year. Volunteers from the campus community will
serve as role models/mentors to groups of 5-10 participants,
according to the participants’ need.
Personnel Responsible: Counselor

Plan

Develop a technology integration plan
– Contributes to program objectives
– Promotes active learning for students
– Get computers into the hands of students
– Reflects your vision for your program
TRIO@Work: Technology for Global Learning
29
Personnel

Build your knowledge base
– Directors “own” and “share” the vision
– acquire the knowledge yourself or secure a
resource person with the knowledge (could
be a TRIO client/student)
• “technical” technology skills
• “learning” technology skills
TRIO@Work: Technology for Global Learning
30
Partner

Leverage local resources (find partners)
– Associated institutions may provide
•
•
•
•
•
•
Space for labs
Fully equipped labs
Internet/e-mail accounts for students
Technical support for equipment
Technology training for staff
Matching funds for any grant money received
TRIO@Work: Technology for Global Learning
31
Hardware
Purchase
quality equipment first
Consider laptops for lab & loan
Consider wireless for outreach
Sample Configurations
Standard Configuration
• Pentium 4 2.00 GHZ
• 256K RAM
• DVD-CDRW
• 40 Gig hard drive
• Integrated DVMT Video Card
• 15” monitor
Minimum Configuration
