1.0 Introduction
1.1 New Tune Music Workshop is a musical inclined society where we can find the
pleasure of playing music. It is a music society where music is the main spirit and
soul of the members.
1.2 New Tune Music Workshop helps and provides chances for those music lovers,
talented musician and music composers to learn and to improve themselves in this
field of art. New Tune Music Workshop also helps to expand the future of our
local music and at the same time brings all the music lovers together and build up
a stronger bond of friendship. We have meeting on every Friday as part of our
main activity where we will exchange our knowledge about music in the form of
seminar, singing and playing musical instruments with our members. Besides that,
New Tune also provides music classes such as guitar class, keyboard class, vocal
class and drum class for our members who want to learn basic skills in music.
1.3With strong determination and great effort, New Tune had gained recognition in
the Halo Song Competition when one of the members managed to go on and
qualified themselvesfor final stage in 1993. While in 1995, another member went
to semi-final stage.
1.4 The National Undergraduate Song Competition was held at University Malaya on
21st November 1998. The songs performed at that night had been selected and
recorded into an album. This album for remembrance was launched around
November 1999.
1.5 In 1999, two of our songs were in the final of ‘Our Voice Composing Contest’
which organized by Radio 5.
1.6 New Tune Live Performance (NTLP I) had been held on 9th of January 1998 at
Dong Jiao Zhong, Kajang. This was our first live performance since New Tune
Music Workshop was established. Around 400 peoples included students were
present at that moment from other universities.
1.7 Our second performance was held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Yu Hua,
Kajang, on 18th December 1998. This performance attracted around 600 people

and most of them were from UKM as well as other universities and colleges such
as UPM, UM and Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR college).
1.8 Beginning of new millennium, New Tune Music Workshop had its third
performance on the 15th January 2000. This performance had benefited us not only
in the field of composing and performing, but also in administrating.
1.9 The forth performance was held on 2nd December 2000, NTLP V on 2nd December
2001, NTLP VI on 1st December 2002, NTLP VII on 14th December 2003 and
NTLP VIII on 19th December 2004. All of them were held in New Era College
Hall. On 22nd January 2006, the ninth performance was held in DECTAR UKM.
1.10 During year 2002, New Tune Music Workshop published an album with
collections of songs from past productions of New Tune Music Workshop. In the
same year, 1 of our songs got consolation prize in National University Song
Composing Competition. During year 2004, 1 song from New Tune which sing by
Wakin Chau got the award of 10 Best International Songs in Malaysia PWH
Music Award. Year 2004, our senior Chen Jia Kai published his own album and
his song got award of The Best Composed Song and The Best Production in
Malaysia PWH Music Award.
1.11 2010, songs composed by our seniors was sang by Y2J(神木与瞳) and got into 10
Best International Song in Malaysia PWH Music Award. Every year more than
thousand audiences had attended NTLP. Jess Lee, (李佳薇) was the finalist and
grand winner of the popular televised singing competition in a show called ‘One
Million Star’ (7th Season) in Taiwan. She was also the past member of New Tune
Music Workshop and she is the first Malaysian who had won in this competition.
1.12 In the year of 2012, the NTLP XV was successfully held at DECTAR UKM with
lots of audience that included students from UKM, students from other universities
and residence around Kajang area attended this event. There was estimated around
1200 people attended this great event which consisted also of the businessmen
who had sponsored us for the event.
1.13 Committee of 2014/2015 session are planning to hold it on 10th May 2015 in
DECTAR UKM. We estimate around 2000 people will attend NTLP XVIII and
these include students from other universities and non-students.

2.1 To cultivate the trend of local song composing.
2.2 To strengthen the relationship among members.

New Tune Music Workshop is a platform for UKM’s undergraduates to integrate and
establish their talent. It strives on the concept of extending the local song composing
cultural to UKM’s undergraduates and the public. All songs are productions from our
UKM’s undergraduates.
