Course Description: AS 300 is a study of leadership, management fundamentals, professional knowledge, Air
Force personnel and evaluation systems, leadership ethics, and communication skills required of an Air Force
junior officer. Case studies are used to examine Air Force leadership and management situations as a means of
demonstrating and exercising practical application of the concepts being studied. A mandatory Leadership
Laboratory complements this course by providing advanced leadership experiences in officer-type activities, giving
students the opportunity to apply leadership and management principles of this course.
Course Objectives: The AS 300 cadet should comprehend selected individual leadership skills and personal
strengths and weaknesses as applied in an Air Force environment. The individual should comprehend the
responsibility and authority of an Air Force officer, the Air Force officer’s responsibilities in the counseling and
feedback process, and the selected duties and responsibilities as a subordinate leader. The individual should
comprehend and apply concepts of ethical behavior as well as comprehend the selected concepts, principles, and
theories of quality in Air Force leadership and management. The individual should apply listening, speaking, and
writing skills in Air Force-peculiar formats and situations with accuracy, clarity, and appropriate style.
Course Goals: Course goals are met through the MAIN POINT/SAMPLES OF BEHAVIOR for each academic lesson.
You are strongly encouraged to use the objectives for each lesson as you prepare for each class and the
examinations.

Attendance Policy: According to AFROTCI 36-2010, para 1.1.1.1, In order to receive a passing grade, cadets must
“Attend 80 percent of Aerospace Studies (AS) classes.” This attendance policy also applies to “academic only”
students.
Class Preparation: I expect you to complete all required reading assignments prior to each class session in
accordance with the attached schedule. Quizzes, exercises, and class discussion will come from your assigned
readings and associated samples of behavior.
Classroom Behavior: Punctuality is important and expected. Failure to comply will affect your grade and could
result in you not being retained in the program. Entering class after the instructor has started class will result in
one tardy. If you made prior arrangements with me, the tardy will be considered as an excused tardy. If a student
receives 2 unexcused tardies this will count as one unexcused absence (4 unexcused tardies would result in the
loss of one letter grade). Eating and drinking is permitted in the classroom, as long as you are discrete and clean
up your area when finished.
Uniforms: You are responsible for properly wearing the uniform and meeting the required grooming standards
directed by AFI 36-2903. The Cadet Guide covers the necessary specifics for these areas. All cadets should refer to
the current Operations Order (http://airforce.ucf.edu) for the correct uniform of the day.
Academic Plan Review: You will complete an academic counseling with me no later than 15 Oct 2011. I will
review your academic plan using AFOATS Forms 16 and 48. Your AFOATS Form 48 MUST be current,
completely/legibly filled in, and signed by a UCF Academic Advisor THIS semester. I will provide you with a sign-up
schedule and once you select a time and date, this becomes a mandatory appointment.
