5T Sports is a small, nimble and highly specialized consulting practice focused on bringing new revenue and cost savings to professional sports teams and venues through the application of sustainability and technology solutions. The company operates as a group of partners located in North America and Europe. The work location for this role will be in our Gastown Office in Vancouver, BC. Sustainability Practice - Communications Specialist (Practicum/Work Experience) 12 week Practicum – 8 hours per day/1 day per week This individual will work closely with the Senior Partner to support interactive communications within the ‘green sport’ community of practice. The role requires a mix of Intellectual curiosity (you enjoy learning something new every day) Strong interest in both sport and sustainability discerning analytical ability (you can make distinctions between true opinion leaders and incessant self-promoters) engaging personal communications skills ( you understand that networking and information-sharing is a two way street) Your role is to support the company’s 5T’s digital presence in the sport & sustainability community by curating and managing communications with other professional service providers, product manufacturers, frontline team personnel and industry associations and media. This practicum provides a highly structured, mentored business experience with a rigorous work schedule, enabling the student to apply both academic marketing in an exciting, emerging are of the sports industry while allowing for personal expression and experimentation. This is best suited to someone who is driven to excel and looking for a work experience that will prepare them for a career in the sports industry in a marketing or communications role. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: This role requires both a strategic and tactical mindset, in an entrepreneurial yet disciplined individual. Attention to detail and personal initiative are essential. Primary responsibilities and key tasks will include: Develop Digital Communications Plan Based on the company’s editorial calendar and digital presence strategy. Media to include blog, Paper.li, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Google+ Curate Content Use existing and identify additional news, event and opinion leader sources Communications Management Draft and post curated and original content, post company news and event announcements Monitor Company and Industry Conversations Review Paper.li postings weekly to adjust content feeds as needed Maintain an ‘ear to the ground’ using HootSuite and TagCloud Provide internal Reporting, Make Plan Revisions and Strategy Recommendations Develop and present monthly report on communications activity, conversation topics Revise original plan and suggest strategy recommendations as appropriate REPORTING STRUCTURE This position reports to 5T’s Managing Partner and may require collaboration with other partners and / or external contractors.. All direction and reporting responsibility will be to 5T’s Managing Partner. This role may include supervision of interns and practicum students. Expectations for a supervisory role will be clarified and agreed upon in advance of intern’s assignment to projects in the Sustainability practice. SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS Required Knowledge: Strong knowledge (broad and moderate depth) of sustainable building features in both built environment and in building operations. Working knowledge of social media channels: Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google+ Familiarity with social media management tools: HootSuite, Klout Skills: Strong written communication skills; visual communication skills a bonus (graphs, charts) Report writing in business format – bullets over prose, concise sentences Ability to translate briefings to action, work diligently to achieve directed results Proficient in MS Office or equivalent; graphic design skills a plus Quick grasp of new concepts Ability to articulate and present research, analysis and opinions confidently Demeanor: Passion-driven diligence – your personal interest in sustainability and sport drives you to deliver fully-formed ideas and thorough and complete assignments to the utmost of your abilities.
