Extreme Trips Inc.
For thrill seeking grad students:
Year round Lake Tahoe enchants vacationers.
This aquamarine gem centered among Rocky
Mountains, deserts, and vacation cities, brings
fluffy power snow in winter, and memorable
boating and watersport days in summer. With
destinations like Heavenly Mt, the Winter
Olympic resort, Squaw Valley, Lake Tahoe
thrills. This package employs a two part
vacation style. The first part of the trip takes
place in summer, then six months later during
the peak winter season you embark on the
second half of your vacation.
Day one, summer:
As the sun stretches its arms low in the sky,
enjoy a Mountain Nectar coffee shop breakfast.
Try an oversized sandwich, with large savory
bagels, thick strips of bacon, and real, fresh
Next, head to Alpine Meadow Stables for a
sight-seeing horseback ride. Trot through
bright green mountain forests and stretches of
untouched landscapes. Feel the power of your
muscular steed as you step with confidence
conquering the ground of the West. Pass pines
and lush forest vegetation.
Ride your horse to Crest Café and Catering who
will provide a satisfying lunch with their
renowned dishes. After you tie off the reins,
enjoy authentic Italian cuisines, such as rigatoni
or brick oven pizza, or American style lunches,
such as burgers and peppery steak and cheese
sandwiches.
Changing gears, try a mountain bike ride with
Mountain Biker Tourz. Lake Tahoe has
nationally rated bike paths, mountain and road
alike. You can cruise beginner to extreme tails,
bike over mossy rocks, logs, and small chatty
streams. Notice wild life, like long winged
hawks and white breasted eagles that soar the
heavens. Ride up to cliffs that reveal vast
wilderness expanses or stunning lake views.
Use low gears going uphill then wiz downhill as
your hands rattle on handle bars with the
bounce of the trail. Mountain Biker Tours rents
state of the art equipment and employs only
expert guides.
Drifting to the next bar only takes a flash, and
the Parallel Skis is known for wild nights, loud
rock and roll, and bringing the local crowd.
Experience Tahoe as the locals do at the Parallel
Skis. You can enjoy an extensive craft beer
menu, and the staff encourages body shots.
You’ll see bartenders bust bottle tricks that
amaze jugglers at a giant bar shaped like a
guitar. Multicolored lights shine from the inside
the bar, giving a cool glow that illuminates
glasses and mugs as they sit waiting to be
imbibed from.
Later, The Long Eagle Grille rests at the end of a
scenic shuttle ride through sun setting skies and
green mountains. In a thick pine grove, this log
cabin restaurant cooks tucked tightly amongst
the tree of the forests. The almost white,
wooded log structure glows like a stoked fire
place in the night. A red, black and gold sign
hangs from steel rings above the door reading,
“The Long Eagle Grille,” occasionally creaking in
the wind. The chefs fire thick, western-cut
steaks from local cattle, with hearty, buttery
mashed potatoes and grilled local vegies.
Serving only local wine, aged perfectly, The
Long Eagle knows the art of matching food with
beverage; their staff waits to provide you with
the experience.
A short trip back to Sunapee Lodge is an
excessive exercise in relaxation after your day.
You can make yourself at home with a dip in the
hot tub or trip to the sauna. After, let
relaxation overwhelm you on massive slabs of
Tempur Pedic king mattresses.
Feeling some nightlife? Mountain Cats, a huge
open spaced music venue/bar always provides
cutting edge music and great drinks. You can
hear Dub Step records spinning on weekdays
and all electronic music genres on weekends.
The DJs will amaze you with their mixing skills
and the dance floor is always hopping.
Arranged with lights hanging over a central
dance floor, only a step down from a
surrounding circular lounge area, the setup is
perfect for socialization and roomy dancing.
Day Two, Summer:
Inhale the morning mountain air deeply
through brushed teeth as your hiking boots
crunch on mountain ground. Prepare yourself
to boat Lake Tahoe’s waters at high speeds on a
sweet catamaran sailboat. These two bladed
nautical vessels fly on water. Catamaran sail
boats are light weight, so they tip in strong
winds. Harnessed to the side of the boat, your
body will counter weight the boat’s tip from the
wind increasing knots as you drag your fingers
and touch the wake only an arm’s reach away.
Sunglasses, check; tunes on the catamaran,
check; stocked refrigerator, check; wind, check.
The captain will be taking you to the Islands
Watch. This restaurant sits on the top floor of a
charming lighthouse in the middle of the lake.
Specializing in fresh water seafood, the Island’s
Watch menu blows mainland restaurants,
literally, out of the water. Craft beer
connoisseurs and fine wine fanatics, the Islands’
Watch satisfies like the best.
Next hit the Inlet Harbor, where you’ll hop in a
motor boat and you’ll be briefed on how to
wake board. Feet strapped into a board, the
boat will drag you as you surf continuously.
You can swing right to left behind the boat,
hopping the wake and leaving splashes and
sprays of water in your trail. Splashing into the
water may surprise you, but it won’t hurt with
the state of the art suit, sized perfectly,
provided by Inlet Harbor. Speed through
gleaming water that reflects the image of trees,
mountain, and sun.
Head off to Moghedian’s Bar and Grill for lunch.
Be entertained by their Rat Pack themed staff.
Moghedian’s serves old fashioned juicy burgers,
milk shakes, and crazy side dishes like bacon
and radish mashed potatoes over garlic
asparagus served with the utmost care, style,
and respect. Stay and enjoy their bar which
stands suspended over a pool with a waterfall
splashing behind the bar. Swing dancing begins
at eight o’clock, with lessons from eight to eight
thirty, before the real fun begins. Make sure
you wear your dancing shoes, because the
swing dancing at Moghedian’s gets wild.
Only a skip away, The Riot, a martini bar, awaits
your arrival. A circular building with a grand
glass ceiling allows the moonlit sky to shine
through over patrons, making this spot truly
unique. The Riot’s martini list is three menu
pages long, with flavors unimaginable. Satisfy
your taste buds with their complimentary
crackers, cheese, peperoni, and apples, a
combination that may seem unusual until you
give it a try. The relaxed upscale atmosphere is
a great way to cool down from the wild dancing
and get ready for the next stop.
Kryptonite, a hip night club, plays cutting edge
electronic music; their hired dancers do flips,
dips and twirls. The DJ rocks a Superman
costume and constantly throws Kryptonite swag
at the audience, including t-shirts, CD’s, and
passes to get into the club another night.
Dance among the bouncing crowd of people,
and sip tasty drinks.
Day 3, summer:
Today, you’ll be hiking around the lake for a
visit to Cascade Falls. Your guide achieves an
expert hiker/climber title. Choose to climb up
the rocky cliff-side of Cascade Waterfalls as
your guide safely boles you up the face, or hike
the path around the backside of the fall to the
top of the cliff. Once you reach the top marvel
at the mind blowing view. “On top of the
world” may cross your mind as you behold the
view of the entire lake and its surrounding
mountains.
Hiking farther, arrive at your next destination.
Fisherman’s Outdoor Grille is a unique Tahoe
experience where you fish for your lunch. Your
target, small and large mouth bass, the expert
cooks fire them perfectly, seasoning the fish
with mountain spices served with grilled
vegetables. A wild mountain lunch based on
the principle of: if you don’t catch, you just
enjoy beer and vegetables. Fisherman’s
Outdoor Grille is located at a plentiful fishing
location where you’re highly likely to catch
something, so bring your appetite.
On the scenic hike back your guide will stop at
the Old World Train Station tucked into a
beautiful green valley. Here, learn about early
California settlement, railroads, and the gold
rush, while marveling at settler train tracks that
brought hundreds of settlers to the golden state
for the promise of gold.
This evening, your lodge shall entertain you.
After pool and hot tub fun there are
shuffleboard tournaments for all guests;
couples team up playing a classic California
favorite. Experience the intensity of friendly
completion for first place. All the while, the
lodge serves a full bar menu with free
appetizers and plays classic rock tunes.
Day 4, summer:
Be ushered to the Snake Valley Helo-pad bright
and early. Fly with the pilot and your guide to
the top of Heavenly Mountain with mountain
bikes on board. The trails on Heavenly Mt bring
the intensity. The ride begins on Dead Man’s
Ridge. Here, the views make heads spin; one
side is a vast desert of tan and reddish color
with bright green cacti spotted all over the
great expanse and the other side is lush
mountain terrain with green vegetation hanging
under a gorgeous blue sky. Stand on the citadel
awestruck by Tahoe’s beauty. After a hard ride,
your guide will provide a packed sandwich lunch
for you. Your plane ride will be waiting this
evening.
Day 1-3, winter:
Six months later be prepared for a heart racing
change of scenery. Tahoe averages thirty feet
of snowfall per year. Locals complain when
they go a week without a barrage of fresh,
sweet powdered-snow. Stay at the Olympic
Village Inn, an accommodating lodge where the
Olympians stayed in the Winter Olympic of
1980. Olympic Village features eight different
hot tubs and three heated pools. The Inn rests
slope side and you receive an included three
day pass to Squaw Valley. Ski or board,
whichever you prefer. Rip down wide open
Western trails, spray white Sierra snow. Jump
cliffs of all sizes; hit the board park for some
jumps of grind rails.
Squaw Valley’s multiple peaks are jagged and
rocky, shooting high above the tree line
shrouded in clouds. See if in you can cover the
whole mountain in three days, accept the
challenge! Squaw’s terrain can satisfy the thirst
for good skiing; beginners can stay to the
middle of the mountain on the green trails
while experts are encouraged to explore the
mountain freely. There are high speed trails,
terrain parks, cliffs, glades, bowls, and
palisades. Squaw’s army of gondolas and lifts
can take you all over the mountain. The Goose
Gondola takes skiers to the top of KT22, named
by the owners of the mountain and their first
experience on KT22. According to the talehe
wife made 22 kick turns her first time skiing
from top to bottom and her husband thus
named it, KT22. This peak is bold and steep,
there. One famous feature of KT22, called the
Devils Fingers, a five pointed rocky cliff in which
only

makes hearts pound like “The Raven.”
You can also visit another favorite peak,
Silverado. You must traverse across the
mountain to ski this peak, though. You can see
for yourself why so many visitor travel across
the terrain just to get to this peak. Shaped like
a half-mile, natural half pipe, Silverado
demands high pace with high intensity. The
other two skiable sides of this peak are rocky
cliffs where you can carve your way down,
avoiding protruding rocks and trees. A double
chair lift at low elevations brings you back to
the top on a very scenic chairlift ride.
Check out the stunningly massive Siberia Bowl.
This massive crater at the top of the highest
peak in Squaw awes even the locals. The lift
takes you half way up the bowl. Expert snow
cruiser? Try a hike up the snowy backside of
the Siberia Bowl. Your ascension will take you
to the top, you face the entire Valley of Squaw,
a detailed painting of the heavens and earth
below. The steep drop at your ski tips nears the
definition of a cliff, but snow clings to its steep
ageless face. Only one way to go down, now,
and that requires leaning your weight forward
heart pounding. Speed straight to avoid falling,
you can slow down once it flattens out. Slowing
down on the slope can be dangerous because
that is how skiers or riders fall.
Ending your three day exploration of Squaw
Valley, be shuttled back to Heavenly Mountain.
Similar to the unforgettable view of desert in
opposition of wild mountainside terrain, the
view during winter steals breaths even more
surprisingly than summer. The desert located in
low elevation looks the same, but the winter
wonderland that opposes it looks like a
landscape in National Geographic Magazine.
No other place like this in the country exists.
Skiing Heavenly is scenic and laid back, less
extreme than Squaw. Truly a great place to
wind your vacation down, perhaps try Heavenly
Mt cross country skiing or snow shoeing.
Your plane ride back home waits this evening.
We know we’ll be seeing you again!
Learning outcomes:
1.c. My revision of my Itinerary reflects the
rhetorical situation much than the first. My
writing is a lot more appropriate because I
maintained the correct style and rhetorical
situation.
2.d. I used some strategies like avoiding the use
of passive voice in my writing. I have received
feedback on these mistakes and corrected them
this time around.
3.a. After receiving consistent feedback on
consistent mistakes I have made, I have learned
to see and correct my previous mistakes.
The Glades, mixed terrain featuring woods,
rocks, cliffs, and dips thrills skiers on the other
side of the mountain. These glades bear no
resemblance to Eastern glades. Trees are
sparser making Squaws glades not very
dangerous. The Glades can be conquered many
ways, think of riding through untouched forest,
with no set path before you. You can spend an
entire day in the glades, exploring Tahoe as you
strategically carve your own path.
4.a. The project itself required writing that is
simple and maintains a tense, voice, and style
unique to itineraries. I used the correct style
this time.
5.a. I can now recognize the style of itineraries.
Before I tried to hard and got sub-par results.
With the right mind frame and understanding of
itineraries I was able to do the assignment the
proper way.
