The 71st Annual Kenora District Festival of the Arts April 7 to 22, 2015 Hi-Lites Concert Saturday, April 25th, 2015 7:00 p.m. at Knox United Church Featuring Adjudicators’ Choices of Outstanding Festival Performances Program $5.00 Presidents Message The participants have made their selections, practicing and rehearsing is done, the stage is set, for the annual Kenora District Festival of the Arts. We are very fortunate in this community to have a vibrant and diverse Festival. In a continuing effort to broaden the appeal of the Festival we have added two new classes This year we are proud to introduce Story Telling, and reintroduce Dance. We feel that the opportunity for Story Telling will give a number of people of all ages a chance to be involved in the Festival. Dance has been absent for a number of years. As with many of the disciplines, the dedication of a talented teacher makes a big difference, we are pleased to welcome Erin McCuaig who is encouraging her students to enter the dance classes. I’m sure that the founding members would be very pleased to know that the Festival is alive, well and growing. The Festival has played an important part in the lives of many of the citizens of Kenora. Many of us have been participants in the past, or have had a family member or a friend involved. I believe that the Festival may be one of the major reasons that we have such a strong and vibrant arts community in Kenora. It is amazing the number of solo performers and groups that offer their talents in the community. They can be heard and seen at the Harbour front, at the schools, large and small choral groups, everything from Bach to the Blues. The months of preparation by the many dedicated volunteers have once again put all of the pieces in place for the Festival. The list of talented participants from the city of Kenora, Dryden, Fort Frances and the surrounding area is very impressive. We should consider ourselves fortunate that we have such a great wealth of people, of all ages, who are prepared to present their talents for our enjoyment. The benefits of the Festival are numerous. It gives an opportunity for the artist to showcase their talent before an appreciative audience. This is a very important part of the learning process. The performers will now have the opportunity to hear other musicians, actors, and see visual artists, all of whom will receive a written adjudication for their effort. The goal of the Festival is to encourage all of the participants to do their best, and enjoy the enthusiasm of those around them. It is a known fact that participation in this type of activity has had very positive effects in the life skills of the individuals. I feel that it is very important for us as a community to keep this valuable asset alive and well. The arts play a very important part in the fabric of our community, and deserve the support and encouragement of all of us. Thank you to all of the many dedicated volunteers who contribute countless hours of work and support to the Festival. The Festival committee would like to offer special thanks to our loyal financial contributors for their continued and valued support. The Hi-Lites Concert this year is Saturday, April 25th at Knox United Church at 7:00 pm. See you at the Festival, Len Mark 2 KENORA DISTRICT FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS APRIL 7 to 22nd, 2015 HI-LITES Concert April 25th, 2015, 7 pm, Knox United Church Adjudicators 2015 Piano: Visual Arts: Dramatic Arts: Storytelling: Dance: Vocal and Choral: Band/Instrumental: Electronic Multimedia: Jane Petroni Michael Boss Tom Soares Mary Chown Johanne Gingras Gail Singer Janice Finlay Wayne Kelso Sections Piano Co-ordinators: Craig Bryant, Rob Rheault Anne Kostantin Visual Arts Esme Boone 548-5167 Dramatic Arts English 2015 (French 2016) Co-ordinator: Ruth Bowiec 468-7423 Poetry Selection: Sheryl Rawn (2015), Kirsten Dexter (2016) Storytelling (New 2015) Ruth Illman 548-8664 (interim contact) Dance Erin McCuaig 464-3666 Vocal and Choral Co-ordinator: Stephanie Kennedy 467-1640 Advisory Committee: Catherine McLeod 468-8613, Suzanne McIntosh 548-4676 Band/Instrumental Bethany Simpkin 468-5954 Advisory Committee: Darcy Ura 548-8282, Courtney Lenhoff Electronic Multimedia Co-ordinator: Wayne Kelso 467-8164, George Brunton 3 Committee Convenors, Helpers and KDFA Officers * Officers referred to in rules Publicity: Barb Pernsky 468-8136, Gery Beveridge 468-5954, Mitch Plamondon 464-3529 Syllabus: *Sheryl Rawn 548-4791, Marlene Madison 547-2443 Committee Telephoner: JoAnn Mark 467-2533 Programme: Marlene Madison 547-2443, Lillian Penner, JoAnn Mark Adjudicators’ Personnel: Pat Hamilton 548-2078, Anne Kostantin 548-5680 Adjudicators’ Supplies: Jackie Haase 543-1082 Hi-Lites Committee: Len Mark 467-2533, Bill Cameron 468-7640, Honor Gouriluk Fundraising: S.C.
