Sigma Theta Tau International Background:
Sigma Theta Tau is an International Honor Society of Nursing. It was established in 1922 and is one of the largest international nursing organizations with members in 90 countries worldwide. The society promotes nursing excellence and scholarship through initiatives in research, leadership and community service to improve the health of the world’s people.
The RCSI School of Nursing & Midwifery has formed the Rufaida Honor Nursing Society as a prelude to full independent Chapter formation in Bahrain and in the Middle East. Rufaida Honor Nursing Society:
In June 2015 the Rufaida Honor Nursing Society submitted an application for chapter charter status with Sigma Theta
Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. (STTI), the only international nursing honor society worldwide, is a global community of nurse leaders with members belonging to more than 486 chapters who live in over 90 countries. Through this network, members lead in using knowledge, scholarship, service and learning to improve the health of the world’s people.
Our goal is for a chapter of STTI to be established in Bahrain in the near future . STTI requires us to form and operate as a developing nursing honor society for a minimum of one to two years after to submitting an application. We have several requirements that must be met as a developing honor society that will help ensure our success and sustainability as a future chapter.

Mission:
The Rufaida Honor Nursing Society adheres to the philosophy of promoting excellence in the nursing profession so that the health of the people of Bahrain can be promoted, improved and sustained.
Vision:
The objectives of the society are to host and provide opportunities to professional nurses in Bahrain to network with other healthcare professionals in Bahrain and outside the country.

CRITERIA FOR MEMBERSHIP
Be legally recognized to practice nursing in his/her country
Undergraduate registration criteria 3 rd and 4 th year students
Have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing
Valid nursing registration
Submission of curriculum vitae or updated resume
Candidate statement
An endorsement is a letter or statement supporting an individual for membership* in the chapter.
Individuals are encouraged to submit two endorsements in order for an application to be considered by the Chapter Eligibility Committee.
Nursing students should include one letter or statement of support from a nursing faculty member. At least one of the two endorsements is to be from an active member of the Honor Society of Nursing,
Sigma Theta Tau International.
