Carolina Entrepreneurial Fellows (CEF)

The CEF program provides 5-8 UNC MBA students with the opportunity to
intern with local, small and growing entrepreneurial firms.
What type of MBA
is it best suited for?
• Focused, self-driven, multi-disciplinary
• Wants to work in start-up/VC post-grad
• Likes independence to design internship
How does it work?
• 2-2-1 structure over 10 weeks
• Two rounds of applications due in spring
How much is the
pay?
• Anticipated total compensation is $10k
• 50/50: Varies if non-paying or own
What are the next
steps?
• Begin thinking clients (i.e., Internet
Summit and other local E-ship events)
• Get involved with course pack sales
Young Entrepreneur in Residence (YEiR)

The YEiR program provides one UNC MBA student with a one-year internship
with NC IDEA, splitting time between venture capital and start-up projects.
What type of MBA
is it best suited for?
• Interested in a full-year engagement
• Wants hands-on experience with both VC
and local start-up companies
How does it work?
• Spring: VC (evaluation, due diligence,
selection of NC IDEA grant recipients)
• Summer: Consult two local start-ups
How much is the
pay?
• Spring: 1.5 credits (independent study)
• Summer: 10 weeks, $10k
