The Global Studies Scholarship 2014-2015

Purpose: The Global Studies Scholarship is designed to provide financial support to Normandale Community
College students who wish to participate in a study abroad program.
Eligibility: To be eligible for consideration, the applicant must meet each of the following criteria:

be a currently enrolled Normandale Community College student
be enrolled and accepted into a study abroad program
have at least a 2.5 GPA
have earned at least 12 credits at Normandale Community College
never received a prior Global Studies Scholarship
Selection Criteria: Once deemed eligible, applicants are selected based on the following criteria:

grade point average at Normandale Community College
quality of essays (judged by writing quality, thoughtfulness and ability to articulate a rationale for
participation in study abroad)
quality of letter of recommendation
The selection committee ranks applicants based on the above criteria and then offers the scholarships to applicants
based on their rank order. If the committee deems that no applicant is suitable, no scholarship is given.
Selection Committee: The Global Studies Committee serves as the selection committee for the Global Studies
Scholarship. The chair of the Global Studies Committee also serves as chair of the Global Studies Scholarship
selection committee.
The Award: depends on available monies ($500 or up to $1,000)
Number of scholarships to be given annually: depends on account balance and number of suitable applicants

Application Deadline: Scholarship applications are reviewed in Fall and Spring semesters. To be considered for the
fall review, complete scholarship applications must be received by Dan Creed on or before November 1, 2014. For
the spring review, completed scholarship applications must be received by Dan Creed on or before March 1, 2015.
