Write 3 business articles that describe the ways in which business activities are
classified i.e. primary, secondary and tertiary.
You are expected to describe each sector and give general examples of the
types of organisations in each sector.
You will also be expected to give real examples of local and national businesses
and explain why they qualify for the sector.

(b) Look for examples of Primary Sector businesses (not Primary
schools)
(c) Add images of primary sector businesses to a word doc and save it
as “Primary” – it will look like the one below.
(d) Get 5 images.
(e) Make notes about each image e.g these are cranberry farmers in
USA and they are in the primary sector because they grow the
cranberries.
(f) Make sure the Word doc has your name, the date and the header;

(a) Now write your magazine articles
(b) Include information on the Primary sector with pictures and
examples, do the same for the secondary and the tertiary sector.
(c) You can use the template > student common> BTEC first or make
your own
(d) You can change the name of the paper; the Daily Telegraph, the
Local Rag, the Business weekly etc
(e) Add your name as the main reporter.
(f) One sheet per article please, so you need 3 pages to pass.

Those going for the merit need to develop each of the articles and include:
Activity 2 (M2)
Develop your magazine article to:




describe how the sizes of the sectors are measured;
explain the various areas of growth or decline in all three sectors of business activity in the
UK making reference to any local or regional fluctuations;
include data and graphs and explain how the data you have chosen can be used as indicative
evidence of a growth or decline in a particular sector;
speculate and comment on possible reasons for such changes.
How to do this:
1) Watch the presentation on the student drive
and make notes (do not copy and paste) please
rewrite. Growth and decline of sectors.
2) Include a graph that shows the changes in
sizes of the sectors in UK (see data in table
below) and explain the reasons for the trends you
see.
