6th, 7th, and 8th grade Humanities Reading List Each summer your student will be expected to read five of the following books. By the end of their three years at Morehead, they will have read fifteen different books over the course of their summers. The choice of book is up to them. However, some of the books contain language or situations that may require adult supervision. On the back of the page is a form the students need to turn in at the beginning of the year. It does require a two sentence summary and the parent’s signature. Of course, students can read more than the five required books each summer. Most of the books on this list are a classic and available at public libraries or Google Books. 1984 George Orwell 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Jules Verne Across Five Aprils Irene Hunt Adventures of Pinocchio Carlo Collodi The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Mark Twain Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Lewis Carroll Allanna: The First Adventure Tamora Pierce All Quiet on the Western Front Erich Remarque Amos Fortune, Free Man Elizabeth Yates Animal Farm George Orwell Anne of Green Gables L.
