Calendar Release: For the 12th year in a row, Point of No Return Improv provides an
interactive comedy experience. Audience members provide inspiration in the form of
suggestions from which original scenes are created. Brave volunteers may even find
themselves on stage being serenaded or used as props by the cast. Content is suitable
for audiences ages 13 and up. Tickets are available at the door for $5.
Point of No Return has recently been featured at First Night Akron, Oberlin College
Improv Conference, and a fundraiser for Mental Health America of Summit County.
PNR Improv is part theatre, part comedy, and wholly fun. Cuyahoga Falls Patch calls
Point of No Return “simultaneously hilarious and nerve-wracking.” The Falls NewsPress says PNR will have you "shaking with laughter." According to our fans, "[If] you're
looking for some great comedy without the worry of embarrassment, then this is a mustdo."
Point of No Return Improv operates with the support of Cuyahoga Falls Parks and
Recreation Department.

Point of No Return Improv … Comedy at Your Direction
“If you’d told me after our first show that we’d still be doing this eleven years later, I
would have been doubtful,” says Bob Coppedge, a founding member and the
Executive/Creative Director. “We had no idea what we were doing.”
“I didn’t fully understand what I was saying yes to,” adds Susan Stofka, another
founding member. “I just knew that it sounded like fun.”
What she was saying yes to was an improvisational comedy troupe that came to be
known as Point of No Return Improv. The group uses suggestions from the audience as
inspiration for spontaneously created scenes.
The troupe started as an offshoot of Actors-N-Theatre in Cuyahoga Falls. “We were
rehearsing George Orwell’s “1984,” says Coppedge, “And we needed to do something
to lighten the mood.”
“The art we practice is known as short-form improvisational theater,” says Tracy Cubbal.
“It’s a form a lot of people are familiar with because of the Drew Carey show “Whose
Line Is It Anyway,” but we go beyond that. I think a lot of people are surprised by how
theatrical it is.”
“We provide a kind of entertainment many people have never seen,” says Robyn
Cooper. “They have a say in creating what happens on stage. And of course, no two
shows are ever the same. That’s what makes it exciting.”
The one constant is the central role of the audience. “They’re the stars of the show,”
says Stofka. “A lot of scenes involve bringing volunteers from the audience up on stage.
Not only is it fun for them, but their family and friends get a big kick out of seeing it.”
Point of No Return shows are family-friendly. “The humor is kept to a level that you’d
see in a PG-13 movie,” says Coppedge. “There’s enough subtlety to entertain the adults
in the audience without exposing the kids to content that would make their parents
uncomfortable.”
According to a Facebook fan, “[If] you’re looking for some great comedy without the
worry of embarrassment, then this is a must do.”

“We do this because it’s fun,” says Cooper about the all-volunteer troupe. “We’re a
diverse bunch of individuals, but the one thing we have in common is a love for improv.
And when we have fun on stage, the audience has fun too.”
Point of No Return Improv performs at 7:30 p.m. two Saturdays per month at Quirk
Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave., Cuyahoga Falls. The building is wheelchair
