penguins?
Life Cycle of a Penguin
• Mother Penguins will lay one or
•
•
•
•
two eggs in their nest. The nest
can be underground or made of
stones and grass.
The Father Penguin and the
Mother Penguin take turns
taking care of the egg.
The chick then pecks its way
out of the egg.
The chick will grow up and find
a mate. Penguins mate for life.
Penguins can live up to 20
years.
Rock hopper Penguins
• Rock hoppers have brightly

•
•
colored feathers on their
head.
They eat krill, small fish,
and squid.
They get their name
because they hop over the
rocks on the shores where
they live.
They make their nests out
of grass.
•Their predators are blue
sharks, leopard seals, and
fur seals.
•They are very loud birds.
Adelie Penguins
• The smallest penguins in

•
•
•
•
Antarctica.
They make their nests
out of pebbles on rocky
beaches.
They have a white belly
with a black head and
back.
They move around land
by sliding on their bellies.
They eat small fish.
Their predators are
leopard seals.
Emperor Penguins
• The largest of all the
•
•
•
•
penguins.
After the egg is laid, the
mother goes off to feed
while the father penguin
keeps the egg warm.
The mother comes back
when the chick hatches.
They live in the coldest
climate, and make their
nests on the packed ice.
They eat fish and squid, and
their main predators are
leopard seals.
King Penguins
• The are identified by the
•
•
•
•
orange yellow patch on
their chests.
They are the second
largest penguin in
Antarctica.
They find their food by
diving deep into the
depths of the sea.
They eat krill, fish, squid
and plankton.
Their main predators are
killer whales and leopard
seals.
