The theme of loyalty is shown in Antigone when Antigone
chooses to break the law set by Creon and decides to bury her
brother. Although Polyneices is considered a traitor, she tells her
sister Ismene, "But I will bury him; and if I must die, I say that
this crime is holy." Antigone's loyalty to her beloved brother is
stronger than her fear of punishment. Loyalty to her family,
specifically to her brother, was more important than the law.
