Abdoul Fadiga Comm 2220-02 4/1/14 Google Journal Google is one of the biggest search engines in the world but do they know everything you search? Yes they do. The video starts off talking about how Google stands for free speech. The video goes into depth about how overseas in China a lot of content is blocked from its users. The video try’s to persuade the viewer that is Google in it for the money? Or standing up for freedom of speech. I feel this issue is irrelevant because we do not live in China and we have different rules that we live by and stand for. Something fishy I find by the problem is Google is helping China block certain things from its users while making a profit. The World Wide Web or you can say the Internet should be a place of free roaming and sending and receiving information. The Chinese have the right to block whatever they please from their citizens but not from the help of an American company which is Google. Sooner or later there will be a way for the Chinese to get their message across and there will be no way to censor their voices. Google has the brainpower to end this nonsense. The government should not have a say in what is being posted on the Internet they control to much already. Considering the whistle blowers act recently making us full aware that the government is right over our shoulders twenty four seven. I believe this is fully wrong because it’s taking the power from the people to express themselves and their freedom. If people think this is making our country safe its not. Its putting invisible barriers around civilians and giving them the fear of not posting certain things on the web. This is taking away the peoples freedom of expression. How can one express themselves when they live in fear? It may be too early to say this but who knows there might be restrictions on the web soon. Do we actually know how powerful our government is? And its capability? Most likely not, tomorrow you may turn on your computer and Google will have an error when searching anything. We have to be ready for anything to come our way. It is up to the people right to fight against Internet surveillance. Overall I was taught to fight for what’s right and do it with pride and this is one issue I will fight until I see change.
