JFR 2016
(Revised 2/1/16)
Each JFR submission must include a completed PDF version of this PPT file template.
Responses to Sustainable Strategies are required to obtain all award levels.
Each entrant is to download this .ppt template from the online submission form.
The required sustainable strategies criteria are outlined in this template file.
Sustainable Justice Principles: utilize the gray formatted text boxes for your narrative; do not reformat or create new text boxes
(use black font, minimum 12-point font size; bold and italics font styles may be used).
6. Do not include extraneous decorations, graphics or logos.
7. Firm names, logos or other identifiers must not be included on any part of the submission. If this is found the submittal will be
disqualified.
8. Upon completion of the sustainable strategies presentation, “Save As” a PDF file using the file naming convention:
“2016JFRSustainableStrategies_SubmissionNumber.pdf”.
9. Final PDF should include first two (2) slides and instructions; no more than two (2) slides for the Sustainability Concept
Statement; and no more than six (6) slides for the Sustainable Justice Principles presentation (a max. total of 10 slides). Limit
PDF file size to 10MB.
10. Upload the completed PDF into the JFR online submission form as directed.
Nonconforming entries will not be reviewed.
Sustainability Concept Statement
Using the following template slide (slide #3) create one or two slides that present the
project’s Sustainability Concept.
In 200 or fewer words provide a narrative that describes the project’s sustainability features
(contributions to environmental balance, energy efficiency, appropriate land use, minimal
ecological impact, reuse of existing buildings, use of nonrenewable resources), particularly
addressing one or more of the following categories:
•
•
•
•
•
Innovation and Efficiency
Transferability of concepts
Integration of project elements
Architectural/engineering design elements
Response to local ecology
Choose a legible 12-point font size in black (bold and italics font styles may also be used).
Include imagery (photos, diagrams and other graphics)—composition is at your discretion.
Note: LEED analysis results and AIA 2030 Commitment Design Data Exchange (DDx) reports are encouraged as submittal content.
Sustainable Justice Principles
CHOOSE TWO (2) PRINCIPLES FROM THREE (3) OF THE SUSTAINABLE JUSTICE GUIDELINES
SCALES: COMMUNITY, FACILITY AND HUMAN SCALES
SJ Guidelines Scales
EXAMPLE
1. Summary tables for each Principles are included in slides #5-13 of this template:
Community scale Principles are GREEN.
Facility scale Principles are YELLOW.
Human scale Principles are PINK.
Societal scale Principles are BLUE.*
2. Following the example of this slide, copy and paste the Principle’s gray text box into the
template slide (slide #3) for your Principle presentation slide.
3. The Principle’s gray text box also outlines the intended Goal, Metrics of measurement in achieving
that goal, Targets to achieve, project Examples or reference standards; in the blank cell, provide a
100-word max. narrative description for how the Principle was implemented in the project (do
not modify any other cell of the text box).
4. Create a separate slide for all six (6) Principles.
5. Multiple images/diagrams/photos can be used—composition is at your discretion.
6. Create one .pdf (max. file size of 10MB) with your six (6) Principles presentation slides that also
includes slides #1-2 of this template; delete all remaining template slides from your completed
submission file.
7. Upload your completed sustainable presentation .pdf to the submittal form as instructed.

NARRATIVE (In 100 or fewer words, described how the Principle was implemented)
At the facility scale sustainability requires a focused planning of the facility's
aesthetic and functions as a responsible neighbor, employer, housing and care
provider (toward those detained in the system), which is purposeful to the
facility's role in the larger justice system. The planning and design of facilities has a
lasting effect on the communities where they reside; the facility is the tangible link
or interface where the public meet those within the system. The facility is also a
supportive vessel of a restorative justice systems approach, which informs
operations that drive desired interaction.
