ACE Legislation
Beginning with the students entering the 9th grade
in 2008-2009 (thus 2012 graduates), every student
shall demonstrate “mastery” of the state academic
content standards in certain subject areas in order
to graduate from a public high school with a
standard diploma. In addition, students who do
not score a satisfactory score, will be provided
remediation and the opportunity to retake the test
until a Satisfactory score is attained on the tests of
Algebra I, English II, and two of the other test
required. REMEMBER THE MAGIC NUMBER: 4/7

Graduation Requirements
•
4 credits of English: Must include English I, English II, English III, and English IV. AP, Pre-AP, and Concurrent English classes can be used
for these credits.
3 credits of Mathematics: Must include 1 credit of Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Beginning with those entering the 9th grade in the
2008-09 school year, all students must take 3 units of Mathematics in Grades 9-12 in addition to any of the following courses taken prior to
Grade 9. Students taking Algebra I in 8th grade will be awarded credit but not GPA points.
3 credits of Science: Must include 1 credit of Biology and 2 other lab science credits.
3 credits of Social Studies: Must include 1 credit of United States History, 1 credit of World History, ½ credit of Oklahoma History, and ½
credit of United States Government.
2 credits of the same Foreign Language OR 2 credits of Computer Technology: Excludes keyboarding and typing classes. You cannot mix
Foreign Language and Computer Technology credits. You need 2 of one or the other.
1 credit of Additional Courses: Selected from the courses listed above or career and technology education courses approved for college
admission requirements. These include core subjects or Foreign Language or Computer Technology.
1 credit of Fine Arts: 1 Unit or Set of Competencies of Fine Arts such as music, art, or drama, or 1 Unit or Set of Competencies of
Speech(1 semester of speech = 1 credit of Fine Arts).
6 Elective Credits: These may or may not include additional core classes.

Driver’s Education
Drivers Ed will be offered three times per year. Students must be
15 –see Mrs. Taylor in the office for an application
Must pass 8th grade reading test or equivalent to receive your
permit- see Mrs. Taylor in the office for your certificate that you
will present to the DMV.
If the student did not pass the 8th grade reading test they may
retest with Mrs. Craig –announcements will be made throughout
the year for testing. No testing in the summer, so plan ahead if
you will be getting your permit in the summer.
8th Grade Algebra I
Students enrolled in Algebra I during 8th grade are still required to
have three additional years of Math in High School
Students taking pre-algebra(elective credit) as freshman will still
take three additional math courses for graduation

English, but do verify

correct courses.

Pre-Ap English to Regular

need and leave the form
in the basket located on
the tables in the foyer.

With OKLAHOMA’S PROMISE – OHLAP 8th, 9th & 10th grade students
whose annual family income is $50,000 or less can
EARN FREE COLLEGE TUITION!
Requirements:
 Graduate from an Oklahoma High School
 Take the 17 required high school courses earning at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA in those
courses
 Achieve a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 for all courses in grades 9-12
 Attend school regularly
 Stay away from drugs and alcohol
 No Out-of-School Suspensions
 Don’t commit criminal or delinquent acts
 Sign up online or mail in the application anytime from 8th grade year to June of
sophomore year

ACT: required to take concurrent courses
and to enroll in college after high school
- Can be taken multiple times and we
recommend starting sophomore or junior
year and not waiting until your senior year.
- -Much of the scholarship money you might
earn can come from a high ACT score.

Why the Advanced Placement Program

Students experience a rigorous, college level curriculum, while still have
the support of a great high school staff.

AP classes attract motivated students who want to challenge themselves.

Earn College Credit while in High School.

Teachers that a student has for AP classes have participated in professional
development that make them better teachers, not just for AP but for all
classes.

#1 predictor of college success is the rigor of courses that a student took in
high school.

 Career-Tech: Can
be taken the junior or senior year at
NTC in Pryor or Claremore during the day. Applications
will start Sophomore year. Programs like Welding,
construction, business, engineering, graphic design-just
to name a few
 Concurrent Enrollment: Junior or Senior year students
may attend RSU or TCC for part of each school day.
Must have a 19 on the ACT and have met all
graduation requirements.
