Jo Caldwell Meyer Scholarship Application 2016
SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION:
This is the 27th year Women Communicators of Austin will award student scholarships. During our annual
Banner Brunch, April 16, 2016, we will award $3,000 scholarships to two full-time students who
demonstrate excellence in the study of communications and career commitment in mass communications or
media. The scholarships may apply toward the recipient’s tuition, books, or other direct academic needs.
Women Communicators of Austin (WCA) champions the advancement of women across all
communications disciplines by recognizing excellence, promoting leadership and positioning its members
at the forefront of the evolving field of communications. Our organization dates back to 1929 and since
1989, WCA has awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships to students in the field of communications.
Today, WCA is one of the largest and most diverse professional communications organizations in Austin.
Our membership includes more than three hundred women and men from across a broad spectrum of
communication specialties including journalism, public relations, marketing, graphic design and corporate

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
 Full-time student status, currently enrolled in Spring 2015 with a minimum of 12 hours
 Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00
 Completed at least 30 hours
 Demonstrated career commitment in mass communications or media
 Attending a Central Texas college or university
 Both male and female students are eligible for this scholarship

☐ At least two (2), and no more than four (4), letters of recommendation. At least one must be submitted
by a college professor. Letters of recommendation must be emailed directly from the writer to the
Scholarship Review and Selection Committee through Lisa Maxwell at pastpresident@wcaustin.org. With
your application, submit a list of individuals whom you have asked to submit recommendations on your
behalf, along with their contact information (email and phone number).

All application materials must be typed. If all application materials are not submitted by the above deadline
and according to the submission instructions, the Scholarship Review and Selection Committee will
disqualify the applicant. All applicants will be notified by e-mail of the committee’s decision, so please use
a valid and current e-mail address where you may be reached after March 25, 2016.
If selected as a scholarship recipient, you will be honored at the Women Communicators of Austin’s
Annual Banner Brunch and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 16, 2016.

looking for demonstrated career commitment in mass communications or media. This could include,
besides a declared major in a related field, internships in those fields, extensive volunteering for
organizations in those fields or paid work in those fields. In your supplemental information, address why
you are deserving of this scholarship, both academically and financially. Feel free to mention any work
experience you feel has added to your overall knowledge.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit additional material with their applications. If you have
previously applied for a Jo Caldwell Meyer Scholarship, you cannot submit the same supplemental
material as submitted with previous applications.
