NON-IMMIGRANT M-1 STUDENT ADMISSION APPLICATION
East San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupational Program and Technical Center is proud to welcome students from all over the world.
ESGVROP is authorized under federal law to issue I-20 forms for students with M-1 visas. The I-20 documentation provided by ESGVROP
is only valid for student visas and does not authorize the student for external work experience. The I-20 form will only be valid for the time
period the student is enrolled and attending classes at ESGVROP. By completing and submitting this application, you are completing
the first step in making studying in the states a reality.
Important information for all M-1 Students applying to ESGVROP:
M-1 students must first be accepted by East San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupational Program and Technical Center and have enough
money to study full-time without working. The U.S. consulate deciding on your visa will ask you to prove that you have enough cash on
hand to cover all your expenses for up to a year.
.
Foreign students must be able to speak, read, and write English well enough to understand the course work (and, as a practical matter,
the consular officer who interviews you for the visa, will be informally testing your English ability).
You must be coming to the U.S. as a bona fide student pursuing a full course of study. That means you must attend at least 18 hours
per week, if the courses consist mostly of classroom study; or if the courses mostly laboratory work, 22 hours per week. Your intended
school program must lead to a vocational objective, such as a diploma or certificate.
In addition to proving you have the necessary background and financial capacity to pursue your studies, you must prove that you intend
to return to your home country when your program is over. If you are going to look for a way to take up permanent residence in the U.S.
when your visa runs out, you are legally ineligible for an M-1 visa.
SEVIS Fee & Visa Process
After receiving an immigration form I-20, from ESGVROP make an appointment at their nearest US Consulate to apply for a student
visa. Before you go to your appointment, you are required to pay a SEVIS fee. You will need your I-20 when paying the fee as you will
need information from the I-20 to input into the fee receipt system. After you pay the SEVIS fee, you need to print out the receipt. To
your visa appointment, you need to take your I-20, your passport, SEVIS fee receipt, proof of funding, proof of ties to your home
country, and any other forms which your consulate requires. It is extremely important that you are issued the correct visa – M-1. Check
the visa placed in your passport before you leave the Consulate; if there is a problem, bring it to the consular’s attention. More
information about the visa application process can be found on the
website.
