the Ceramics class will be able to understand the use of the
Pottery Wheel with 100% accuracy (Visual).
Given a direct tutorial video on the Haiku domain, students
will become familiar with the Pottery Wheel by answering
questions related to the video with 100% accuracy (Visual).
Given an e-Learning environment (Haiku), Students and
teacher in the Ceramic class will collaborate and discuss
answers to questions with precision.
Given a step-by-step tutorial in person, students in the
Ceramic class will be able to understand the process of
making a bowl by following along (Auditory/Kinesthetic).
Using videos, reviewing notes, and remembering the
demonstration, students in the Ceramic class will be able to
demonstrate understanding of the Pottery Wheel by creating a
bowl (Kinesthetic).
Given an overview of the entire lesson, students in the
Ceramic class will be assessed on the final product of their
questionnaire.

Introduction
•Welcome to Haiku, a learning management system or LMS that we will be using for
Ceramics 1.
•Haiku is a module that will be used for an aid to learn how to use the Pottery Wheel.
•Haiku will provide you with videos, questions, and materials used to better your
learning.
•Be prepared to collaborate with peers and for me to aid you in your learning while on
this module.
•You can access Haiku through this URL
https://www.myhaikuclass.com/BWziontko/ceramics1/cms_page/view and our class
code is Clay100.

For the past four years, students in the introductory Ceramics course have had great difficulty in using the Pottery Wheel. Students forget the tools and their use, forget the
step-by-step process in creating a bowl, and forget crucial parts when designing their art piece resulting in a bowl with poor craftsmanship. There has been nothing but hands
on activities involving the Pottery Wheel which only focus on the kinesthetic aspect of the lesson. By incorporating auditory and visual learning by displaying videos, questions,
and exercising discussion and collaboration on Haiku, the goal is to aid all types of learners so they can get a better understanding of the ceramic technique. By also displaying
videos, having subtitles, clear and large font, and having the online domain Haiku is available on any device that contain internet access, learners can have constant access to
these resources so they can refer back and accommodations can be met for special needs. The Ceramics class is an introductory course, therefore no prerequisites, skill, or
background is required in knowing how to complete the task of creating a bowl. The student is expected to follow the criteria of the lesson, stay focused, and be able to utilize
information that the learners have been given to complete the task. (Read slide after)

You will demonstrate what you have learned in this
lesson by creating a bowl. You will have three days
to create a symmetrical bowl.
Please view the rubric to see what you will be graded
on.
Be sure to READ EVERYTHING! To get an A+
Rubric is located below the last questions labeled,
“Wheel Thrown Rubric”
Positive feedback: Great job! It seems to me you have followed the lesson well and your next step will be to create two more bowls with little
assistance. Good luck!
Negative feedback: It seems to me you have had trouble learning the Pottery Wheel. Please review the given URL on Haiku and any notes you
have taken to help you through this task.
Students will have to view the rubric to see what they will be evaluated on. Students will be graded on the final product of their piece. If students do not
proceed in completing the task, they are expected to come in for extra help to pass.
