ACTIVITIES AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION
Able to demonstrate regular and active engagement with local
and institutional research community activities organized by
others, for scholarly and social purposes.
Able to explain relevant policies and processes for the ethical
and responsible conduct of research; where appropriate,
undertake training and gain certification.
Able to competently articulate their research reasoning and
plan (in written and oral form) to a critical, informed audience,
based on experience, expertise and literature.
Able to develop a doctoral study plan appropriate to existing
knowledge, skills and expertise; able to develop the research
project plan including budget, timeline, and resource and
equipment needs; able to manage a research project in a
reactive way, driven by external forces and deadlines.
Able to use the language of the discipline in an appropriate
genre to address self-identified gaps in knowledge and
understanding for a critical, defined audience, based on
experience, expertise and literature.


Developing research skills and
knowledge
Able to rigorously distinguish between their work and others in
the field, based on experience, expertise and literature.

Planning and organising
Able to revise doctoral study plan, in line with evaluation of
current knowledge, skills and expertise; able to adapt
approach to the research project and modify processes, taking
into account the context of the research, the rights and
obligations of the researcher and any research team, and the
standards of research practice.
Able to use the language of the discipline or field, choosing an
appropriate genre to extend knowledge and understanding
from a range of different perspectives for different audiences,
based on experience, expertise and literature.


Able to make critical contributions to improving local,
institutional, scholarly and/or professional research
communities; able to use and reflect on the language, tools
and concepts of a scholarly community; able to produce the
artefacts of the scholarly community.
Able to evaluate ethical practices in research, as required by
UTS or other approving bodies; able to demonstrate that
research has been conducted to the highest standard of
transparency and ethical behaviour.
Able to successfully argue for the nature and impact of their
contribution to the field, based on experience, expertise and
literature.
Able to take a strategic approach to research project planning,
by predicting use of resources and demonstrating progress
towards completion of the research project, establishing strong
relationships with key people, and creating links with others,
including future research projects and opportunities for the
development/implementation of the research outcomes.
Able to contribute to and/or change the direction of the
conversation within the discipline/field/profession through
publicly available communication of new knowledge/insights.

