SSN EB MEETING MINUTES May 6, 2015

Attendees: Sasha, Mark, Brian, Jennifer, Gayle and Kim

I. Announcements and business (10 min)

 Earth week activities recap o The SSN tabling event had a great turnout it seemed like mainly students stopped by. Everyone loved the games, and thanks to Chris the plant fund raiser was a huge success and brought in $227.00. o The worm composting event was well attended with about 25 people mainly staff members. Many attendees signed up for the SSN email list. In the future more EB members should come to these events to talk to attendees. Chris brought a compost bin and was very helpful. o Article came out about SSN in This Week at UC San Diego and another article highlighted the composting event.

 Staff picnic- trouble finding leader. Vanessa/Yvonne perhaps (the two that are running for events chair?) o Once the events coordinator is in place they can take the lead with helping to green the staff picnic. o Brainstorm ideas at the next general meeting. o Sasha will send out email to group letting them know this information.

Sweet Potato Fund Raiser o Chris is going to have a table at the Farmer’s Market to sell sweet potatoes as another fund raiser for the SSN. o The Sweet Potato Plant sale will be held on May 26 th at the Farmers Market on campus. Possible dates 5/19, 5/26, 6/2 Brian will check with Chris to see if 5/26 works with his schedule for the Sweet Potato Fund Raiser. o Have SSN banner at table.

This was Gayle’s last meeting as Treasurer o There is approximately $565.00 in the credit union account.

II. SSN Elections (35 mins)

 Final candidate list o We have a list of candidates for the elections o Emails have been sent out to all candidates with dates of the upcoming general meetings where they will be asked to give a speech and if elected the date of the first board meeting. o Sasha will email candidates to see if anyone is interested in running for the secretary position , if not, Kim will continue for another year

 Next steps/review deadlines

o At the general meetings nominees need to give a short 2-minute speech, about their experience and any ideas they may have for the upcoming year. Brian will announce nominees at the meeting. o Electronic Ballot – Jen has two systems ready to go

 Next eb meeting (w/new and departing EB) o Talk about our positions with the new members and what we do

 Each departing member may want to meet with the new board member one-time to answer any specific questions about the position. o Get Torrey Pine to pass onto the incoming board.

 Brian to ask Chris if we can get one from him and will he be the guardian of it if it can’t live in an office.

 June general meeting- party! o Celebrate and talk. o Potluck - you don’t need to bring something to attend. o Mark to check if we can have at the SRC. o Encourage attendees to bring their membership renewals to the June general meeting, give away one free membership that day.

Departing eb prep- the responsibilities/best practices document o Document for each of the board positions. o Best practices, any advice and logistics, any passwords, future ideas.

III. Next SSN General meeting (5 mins)

Elections- candidates give speeches, deadlines overview

Engineers for a sustainable world presents

What else? o Announce Zone Tour on June 24 th noon-1:00 at the General Meeting, send an email to the list. Tour is limited to 35 people. o Brian will get a blurb from Jerry Phelps, to send out to email list
