Brandman University Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership TIMELINES FOR Ed.D. CURRICULUM TEAM TASK COMPLETION During 2011-2012, the Ed.D. Curriculum Team will be working on the development of 12 courses and 5 committee projects. Courses include: Writing for Research & Publications I and II; Quantitative Inquiry I and II: Qualitative Research Methods I and II; 21st Century Leadership; Organizational Communication & Conflict Resolution; Team & Group Dynamics; Organizational Theory & Development; Strategic Thinking; and Program Assessment, Evaluation and Accountability. Committee projects include: Dissertation Handbook, Faculty Handbook, Student Handbook, Cohort Mentor Handbook and Program Resource Center (Blackboard Shell). Some concepts and themes will spiral through more than one course. For example, Transformational Change will be presented initially in both the first content course, 21st Century Leadership, and the first research course, Writing for Research and Publication. This important concept will reappear in Strategic Thinking, Program Planning, Evaluation and Accountability, the Transformational Change Project (TCP), and Leader as Change Agent. Both Qualitative and Quantitative Research classes will incorporate this concept and the TCP into their planning. Course Developers Each course will have at least one writer and some will possibly have a second writer. One of the signature aspects of this doctoral program will be collaboration, not only among students but also among faculty. We intend to model for students the leadership principles we teach them. Course developers should be communicating with each other throughout the planning process to ensure that they are aware of what is being presented in early learning so they can build on it without going back to introductory material. Knowing the syllabi content for courses other than your own in the first year will help you to see where there may be content overlap or theory building blocks. These syllabi, and many other informative, related documents, are stored on our own website, http://organizationalleadershipct.weebly.com/ . The password is brandman (lower case b). As course developers plan their courses, they should be sure to plan the 3 hour monthly cohort meetings that will provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate mastery of the content, get further coaching on the new learning and collaborate, support and dialogue with each other. Suggested agendas, focus questions and learning strategies should be provided, while giving some latitude to Cohort Mentors to insert their expertise into each session, as they help students to translate best theory into best practice in the real world. Additionally, course developers will need to be involved in planning the Immersions that precede and follow the scheduled courses. They will work collaboratively with the Core Planning Team (Associate Dean and CT Chair) to plan Immersions during April and May so that materials can be prepared, speakers arranged and presentations developed for the August Immersion. 1 Brandman University Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership Committees Each of the 5 committees has a committee chair. The Chair will be responsible for calling wimba meetings, ensuring that committee members know which tasks they are responsible for, collaboratively reviewing the material, ensuring the work is presented professionally and in one voice, communicating with committee members, troubleshooting problems and monitoring submission deadlines, as well as completing their own tasks. Once the committee project has been completed, the committee will use the remaining months to plan a training session to introduce their handbook or resource center to the appropriate audience/s. This will include developing a Powerpoint with voice-over and possibly some self-corrected, automatic short quizzes frequently interspersed, that could be posted on the Blackboard Program Resource Center for easy referral after initial introduction.
