Tone can portray a variety of emotions ranging from solemn, grave, and critical to witty, wry and humorous. -Diction, syntax, imagery and figurative language help readers understand tone. • The imagery in “Poetry” reveal a confusing tone that changes halfway through to a more positive tone.
