Hi All! As this year quickly slips away, I figured I better start making sure we are good to go on competitions on 2/7/2015. I finally have district approval to use the Shannon Center. We will definitely have more participants this year as we both have grown in numbers and will have more contests. We have let all the teachers know that a student can’t be in more than one skill contest, to keep us from having to wait for kids all day. It has always been the rule, but a few had worked around that. When skills end we will run the CJ quiz bowl in the cafeteria to give time for tabulation. Those not participating in the quiz bowl can watch. There are more Health Science competitions this year. Last year we just ran the First Aid/CPR. This year there will be multiple hands on medical based contests. I have to find a medical supply vender who will set up a limited mock hospital room for those and get judges. I have the building reserved starting at 8am. Registration 9:00-9:30 and welcome & explanation of the day at 9:30 contests starting at 9:45. This lets those coming in from a distance get here easier and give time for set-up. Contests I know we will have registrants in: CJ Crime Scene Felony Traffic Stop Building Search Basic Health Care Skills Medical Assisting Nurse Assisting Practical Nursing (MAYBE) Medical Math (written test) Medical Terminology (written test) Firefighting (MAYBE- one man says he is registering students, if he is the only one then we don’t hold a district contest) CJ Quiz Bowl & Health Knowledge Bowl after skills are complete. I’ve attached the most recent rules for national contests, they are updated every 2 years so they are titled 15-16. I have to get the updated rules on the state of Texas only contests, including building search. The only change I am aware of is that building search is now a 4 man team, but I believe it runs just as before. What else do you need from me? As always, I appreciate you all So Much!!
