DOVETON EAGLES
FOOTBALL CLUB
Jason Anthony
• Season interrupted by niggling hamstring injury. Solid contribution
for his first season with the Eagles. Looks to have settled in well as
a bustling type at stoppages.
Angelo Arena
• Season interrupted by injury. Good use of the foot spa throughout
the season and many pizzas have ensured Ang was rejuvenated by
seasons end. Even had a gig as an assistant coach in the Ressies.
Kaine Bundy
• Newcomer to the Eagles nest. Excellent midfield/wing player with a
tough edge. Despite his size, this guy can rough it up with the big
boys. He received his nickname Poops as a result of shitting his
pants in Razors van after a big night at the club. Luckily Ray is a dry
cleaner. Couldn’t save his G string though.
Glenn Bundy
• Outstanding year from the Bundy boys. Glenn has played some
terrific football and is very handy in the forward line. Has shown he
can also play on the ball. Knee injury mid season looked nasty, but
to his credit, he came back with a bang.
Troy Cheers
• Troy has gathered some momentum during the season and is a key
player to the teams success. Troy has cemented his spot in the
backline and can also play a tagging role.
Rick Cimino
• The first of the ACL injuries for the year. Rick, a key player and goto-man during the 2006 season was struck down by a horror knee
injury. We hope to see Rick back at the Eagles Nest and wish him a
speedy recovery.
Brett Colbert
• Touted around the traps as Salerno’s love child, this guy has been
an outstanding player during the 2007 season. A handy recruit and
an excellent Assistant Coach. This guy knows his footy and is a well
disciplined footballer. Good role model for the young fellas.
Gary D’Amelio
• Snip was in great form early on in the year and was pivotal to the
teams winning streak. Struck down by an ankle injury early in the
season and his sister spewed out the front of the clubrooms. Made a
miraculous recovery to come back for the finals but then went to the
snow!
Paul Davis
• Mr Reliable. One of the senior warriors of the club, Davo gives it
110% every time he pulls on the boots. Combining his role as
President of the club with a new business, Paul should be
commended for his dedication to the club. He also gave Wildman a
job, crashed his car and his mum pours a good beer behind the bar.
Ray Drysdale
• Another key running player lost to injury before the season even
started. Razor has made an excellent contribution to the Eagles by
acting as an assistant coach for the Reserves. Also, he makes the
toilets smell nice.
Andrew Falbo
• Nicknamed Elbows for slicing blokes heads open. If you are within
ten metres of the great man when the ball is in the air, I suggest you
duck for cover. His aggression on the footy field is second to none
and this hard nut backline player is very underrated.
Matthew Fristad
• The Velvet Sledgehammer, Salerno’s other love child. This young
fella has got a lot of aggression. Whether its on the footy field or
down at the Stammo, this guy will put his body on the line every
time. Excellent first season with the big boys. A vital player to the
future of the Eagles.
Micheal Gorman
• Superstar effort in 2007. Micky G has kicked a shitload of sausages
this year. Winning the Reserve and Seniors goalkicking awards,
Mick should be high commended. Also, Mick supplies the Medical
staff and Waterboys (Thanks Shaz and kids).
Jason Griffiths
• Solid midfielder/wing player. Griffo is a strong in and under player
who has been a solid contributor during the season. Also, Jason
brought a sponsor to the Eagles Nest. Big thankyou to O’Shea
Timber & Trusses.
Brendan Hawkins
• The Hawk has been an excellent clubman. Chief Recruitment
Officer of the Doveton Eagles, the Hawk has brought a truck load of
good players to the club. Once he works on his fitness, Hawk will be
a 200 game player for the Eagles. Solid effort.
Brett Hidgcock
• Outstanding season in the midfield. Easy to coach and
never stops running. Wears fluoro t-shirts and spoons
Fristad a lot. Brett has been a star recruit.
Brayden Keown
• Brades is a solid in and under player. He loves going in
for the hard ball. Just ask Paynter. Sadly, we lost him to
injury during the season. His hand currently looks like it
has gone 12 rounds with Mike Tyson.
Michael Labinski
• Nicknamed Crash, Jimmy, Micky and Labias. This bloke
has guts and determination. A solid and reliable backline
player, shows plenty of leadership and rallys the troops
in defence. Also, played his 350th game for the Mighty
Eagles. Congratulations Mick. An excellent servant to
the club.
Brad Mayo
Mayo shows a lot of aggression on the field. Good with
talking to the young blokes and shows a lot of
leadership. Possibly been the player most sent off
during the year. And his MRS IS HOT.
Tony Mertis
• Mad Dog Merto. The little gonad muncher is an awesome player.
Despite his size, this guy is like a terrier and a prolific ball winner.
Loves his stats and keeps a tally of all of Paynters missed shots
during the year. Life member of the Mighty Eagles.
Scott Miller
• The clubs Police Officer. Rumour has it, he joined the
force after being motivated by the gay policeman from
the Village People. Shaved his head for charity and also
his ball sack. Terrific player in defence, has also shown
that he can play anywhere on the ground. Mans up well
with larger bodied opponents.
Kevin Mottau
• Key position player coming back from his first ACL
reconstruction. Mutta Jnr was just starting to get a feel
for Senior footy. Can play back, forward, tagging or ruck.
Second ACL injury means career is possibly over.
Steven Mottau
• Outperformed by his better looking brother, Mutta Snr
has lost a lot of weight and put it back on during the
season. He has been a cross between Nicole Ritchie
and Casey Donovan during the season. Reliable back
line player who has relished his opportunity playing on
the wing.
Geoff O’Neill
• Scratcher played his 200th game during the season. A very
consistent performer and made the most of his opportunities up
forward. Solid down back. Also, popped out a mini Scratch mid
season.
Steven Ognjenovic
• Skinniest man to ever play football. This bloke has some
courage. Not afraid to back into packs, but his fluoro
headbands leave much to be desired. Likes to wear
them to the Blue Oyster bar. Excellent ruckman and can
play forward also.
Stephen Paynter
• Defining season for Paynts. After being left out of the seniors early
on in the year, Paynts showed some stamina and pace later on in
the season and made a stunning return to the big time. Excellent
hands, great awareness of the goals, just a shame he kicks a lot of
points.
Paul Pierce
• Silent type, but don’t get him angry. This bloke slays
them on and off the footy field. Limited game time due to
injury this season, but Pierco will never give up. If he is
not on the field, you can find him at the bar.
Craig Price
• The big man’s career was ended with a back injury. Pricey
has been a loyal servant to the Doveton Eagles over the
years. In the early rounds of the season, we saw some
vintage Pricey in the ruck. Loves chatting with the umpires
and gave an evil stare to a 15 year old boundary umpire
against Dandenong.
Brett Reid
• Slow start to the season, but Brett put in the hard work
on the track to put in a terrific second half to the year.
Unfortunately, Brett was mugged at knifepoint on the
way to a game. His hair looks like a dead skunk.
Mark Sarlija
• Pugs was a solid contributor early in the season.
Unfortunately, not given the opportunities he deserved.
Always trained hard and willing to give it 110%.
Daryl Thomas
• Outstanding recruit this year. He makes wet days on the
field look like he is playing on a perfect summers day.
Tremendous skill and endless ability. Hope he returns
for the 2008 season. Has already scheduled another
sprint challenge with Fristad.
Gus Toolepai
• The biggest boy at the Eagles, this bloke has showed
some promise during the year. Despite having a broken
leg, arm, toe, face, knee, chest, this bloke is a superstar.
Cameron Van-Ness
• The Loch Ness had a blinder against Sandown this year.
Has solid hands and an excellent kick. Cam can
become a star if he chooses to put more effort in at
training and push himself. He certainly has the talent
and ability.
Ben Vandenberg
• Big, bad, bustling Benny. This bloke has a big heart, big
hands, big kick and big arse. And according to Ang, big
balls. Never gives up.
Dale Walker
• Disco has been a terrific player in the seniors this
season. After winning the Reserves B&F in 2006, Disco
was primed for a big year. Excellent kick and good
hands. Sam Mitchell type player and can extract the ball
from anywhere.
Graeme Walker
• Walks season was cut short by injury. He did manage to
avoid the sniper long enough to notch up game number
150. Graeme is a solid backline player who can play on
the ball. Hope to see him back for the 2008 season as
he is an integral part to the success of the club.
Mick Gardner
• Outstanding in the 2007 season.
Nicknamed Cliffy, but no one knows why.
Great player at Centre Half Back.
Possibly given over 20 50 metre penalties
during the year. Sent himself off for
swearing at the umpire. Good effort
Cliffmeister.
Sean Wild
• Excellent midfield type. Good in and under player and always gives
110%. The 2006 downlow winner. If you ever get into trouble on the
field, this bloke will be by your side to look after you. If you could
pick anyone to be in the trenches with you, Sean is your first choice.
And all he wants for Christmas is his two front teeth.
Justin Wild
• Brother of Sean and Kate. This bloke can turn it on
when he wants to. Good hands and excellent running
ability. Cheaper dentist bill than his brother.
Glenn Wilson
• Willo has been struck down by the flu several times this
season. With work commitments and the flu interrupting
his season, Willo has not been able to cement his spot in
the Seniors where he belongs. His Dad Stan has been a
terrific runner for the Seniors and can give plenty of
handy advice.
Chris Mills
• Challenging Fristad to Bachelor of the year
at the Eagles. Owns the rub down table
and waxes his chest prior to the game.
Pretty boy Millsy carves it up on the footy
field and on the dance floor. Excellent
wing type player and tagger.
Travis Gardner
• Good hands and dead eye dick at goal.
Season spoilt by calf injuries. Has a huge
presence on the ground and can lift the
team. Excellent club man and a top
recruiting coup for the Eagles.
Cameron Womersley
• Wormy has given great service to the club. Puts his heart
and soul into the Reserves to ensure the club fields a
competitive team every week. Mixing his coaching and
playing has been easy for Worm who leads the way both
on and off the field. Has 13 jars of ears on his mantle
piece. Doesn’t mind a bit of a nibble.
Aaron Featherston
• Feathers was a late bloomer with the
Eagles. Came into the line up late in the
season and showed plenty of promise. A
full year in 2008 should see Feathers
become a solid contributor to the team.
Adrian Golding
• Goldy has been a great recruit for the
Eagles. He loves being around the club
and the club loves him. Prowls around in
his leather jacket and looks like an older
version of Danny Zuco from Grease.
When given his chance, Goldy has
performed and kicked crucial goals for the
Eagles. With a full preseason behind him,
the Goldmeister will cement his spot in the
side.
Josh Hughes
• The lovable larrikin of the Eagles,
Hughesy will keep you entertained both on
and off the field. He loves having a yarn
and telling jokes. Great value on the bus
to Cerberus. Hard nut and follows
coaches orders. Can play anywhere.
John Cayhan
• Johnny is very passionate about his footy
and can really get them little legs pumping.
One of the star recruits for the Eagles,
John has kicked some terrific goals and
gets plenty of the ball. Excellent disposal
and great leader.
Dylan Chadwick
• Nicknamed the Dildo, Chaddy has had a
great year. Came to the Eagles
midseason and has performed to his
potential. Solid backline player, who can
play up forward or in a tagging role. Good
skills and excellent aerobic capacity.
David Clarke
• Whether he is doing the player fines on a
Thursday night or filling up the water
bottles at training, Killer has been a
valuable member of the Mighty Eagles.
Always smiling and a great clubman, Killer
is always willing to help. Has improved his
skills ten fold this season and will continue
to flourish as a footballer and a person
with the support of the club. Well done
Killer.
Dennis Diamandis
• Only played a few games during the 2007
season, however shows some real
leadership on the field and at training.
Very handy for the young fellas to have
around the club. Well done Foss.
Gavin Eichenberger
• Gav has got some terrific skills. As the
season has progressed, Gav has gained
more confidence and has blossomed as a
player. Look out for his spearing kicks.
Excellent season Gav. Can play
anywhere, but is suited to a wing or back
flank.
Todd Humphries
• Limited game time during the 2007 year.
Toddy was sorely missed this season. We
hope to see Toddy back at the club in
2008 as he is a great player who gives
110% every time he pulls on the boots.
Darren Last
• Newcomer to the Eagles Nest in 2007,
Lasty was unfortunately struck down by a
chronic hamstring injury. Hope to see him
bigger and better in the 2008 season.
Looks to have great skills after a long
break out of footy.
Ben McDonald
• Ronald McDonald had a terrific year with
the Eagles. When promoted to the
Seniors, Benny Mac was outstanding. A
ball magnet and hard runner, Benny is a
terrific on baller, is now called Lingy and
was crowned Downlow winner for 2007.
Stephen Wright
• Coming off an outstanding season last
year and a Best & Fairest Award, Stevey
had a horrid run with injuries. Moved in
with Paynts and moulded his position on
the couch. Stevey would be looking
forward to a solid preseason and a much
improved 2008.
Shannon Yates
• Just one games from Yatesy for the
Eagles in 2007, we hope to see him back
at the Nest next year for a full season.
Showed some promise.
Pete Dye
• Lives up to his surname with a different
colour hairdo every week. This bloke is a
terrific lead and mark. Has the potential to
kick 100 goals in a season. Loves going
out before a game and carves it up at
1422.
Daniel Wright
• Illegitimate son of Stephen Wright. Has shown a
lot of promise during the season and still has
hair, unlike Stevey. Strong hands and excellent
running ability for a tall bloke.
Ryan Hovell
• Excellent first season in seniors for Frysy.
Nuggety back pocket player nicknamed
Beatle as his hairstyle is stuck in the 60s.
Great clubman and should be a 200 game
player. Baby face with scary tattoos. Also
needs to get his Dad a Doveton Eagles
jacket.
Ang Caruana
• Boss of Gussy. Limited opportunities
during the 2007 season. Loves his soccer
and has a huge nose. Has plenty of
running ability and used to play State
Rugby league. Has a lot to offer the
Eagles next year.
