-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will have
demonstrated that they can identify the hardware and software required to
build a personal computer and then build that computer. They will also have
demonstrated that they can design and build a secure network that uses
both wired and wireless connections. Lastly, they will have participated in
both individual and group presentations of the design solutions.
Prerequisites: Students should have taken CCNA Network Fundamentals, Switching
Fundamentals, and Routing Fundamentals classes, have their CCNA or be able to work at
a CCNA level on routers and switches.
Office hours: I like taking care of things before class, after class and on class
breaks. If this is not sufficient after we have tried, you can contact me through Blackboard
for an appointment.
Required Books: None
Required Materials: Flash drive to save configurations
Attendance: Any student who does not attend the first two weeks of class will receive an
automatic Administrative Withdrawal. If you need to be absent, contact me via BB as soon
as possible. The number one cause of doing poorly in the class is due to excessive
absenteeism. Missed work is the responsibility of the student. This means that whenever
you miss a class, you are responsible for getting with the teacher or another student,
and arranging time for the missed work. Note that all assignments, tests, quizzes cannot be
made up.
E-mail via Blackboard: All students are required to have a Florida State College e-mail
address. This email account is the only one that I will use to communicate with you. All
communications with the class and individual students will be conducted through
Blackboard.
For more information on this project and for permission to use it, please contact Ernie Friend at
Florida State College at Jacksonville: efriend@fscj.edu.
STEM Bridge: Students are required to complete all assigned online STEM Bridge units.
Completing the STEM Bridge units is worth 15 percent of your grade. No partial credit, this
assignment is all or nothing as far as the 15 percent of your grade. This assignment may
take 20 hours or more to complete.
Course Policies:
1. Students are responsible to know everything covered in every class meeting
(including announcements, corrections, and additions). Lectures and discussions
will cover material not fully presented in the handouts.
2. Class participation grades are based on preparation, contributions in discussions as
well as for efforts in applying technology and readings to exercises/assignments.
Class participation is only awarded to students who are present in class during
discussions or application of concepts.
3. NO Late assignments.
4. Please make sure you understand the meaning of Plagiarize or Plagiarism. If you
do not know what it means look it up in your dictionary or language translator. Any
work that contains plagiarized material will be given a grade of Zero for that
assignment.
5. Florida State College at Jacksonville Academic Integrity Policy: All college policies
regarding academic integrity are strictly enforced as indicated in the Florida State College
at Jacksonville policy. As members of the academic community engaged in the pursuit of
truth and with a special concern for values, students must conform to a high standard of
honesty and integrity in their academic work. Instances where academic misconduct occurs
include, but are not limited to, falsification or misrepresentation of material used in the
admission process, presenting the work of others as one’s own, theft, plagiarism and
cheating. These actions pose a threat to the academic integrity of Florida State College at
Jacksonville and its mission and will be treated accordingly. Therefore, any violation of this
rule is in violation of student code of conduct and is considered to be dishonest. According
to the FCCJ catalog, “Any student alleged to have committed any act of academic
dishonesty as defined herein, shall be entitled to due process as defined in District Board of
Trustees Rule 6Hx7-2.18, prior to the administration of disciplinary action including
suspension and dismissal.” See the FCCJ catalog and Board Rules for more information on
student code of conduct and honesty
6. Attendance or Lateness Procedures: While attendance is not mandatory for
lectures, students are responsible for all material and exercises covered in class. It
is not the instructor’s responsibility to re-address material that students miss unless
the instructor determines a proper excuse for the absence/tardiness has been made.
