You must read a second book over the
summer…but you can choose any book that
appeals to you!
 You can use the Reavis website to help you
browse titles
 Go to Reavis webpage
 Click on “Services” and then on “Library”
 Click on “Find Books”
 Click on any of the various links to book list
websites

SUMMER READING WRITTEN WORK

Assigned Title:


Will be assessed with a test (and perhaps other assignments)
when you return to school. If you want help preparing, there
is an optional study guide on the Reavis website that you can
fill out to help guide your reading.
Independent Title:




Complete a project to demonstrate your understanding of the
story/characters from the independent reading book you
chose.
Your teacher will distribute the project assignment sheet to
you, plus it will be on the Reavis website all summer.
There are 12 projects to pick from—choose one.
This project is due on the FIRST day of school—August 21st.
STUDENTS IN HONORS/AP ENGLISH

Honors:



Read both assigned titles
Choose one independent title and complete one project for it.
AP:

Juniors: Read Thank You for Arguing by Jay Heinrichs & Generation
Me by Dr. Jean M. Twenge

Seniors: Read How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C.
Foster & Macbeth by William Shakespeare
+ Although AP students are encouraged to read choice novels
over the summer, they are not required to complete a project.
See the Summer Reading link on the Reavis website for your
AP Summer Reading assignments.
RECAP…




Receive your assigned summer reading title from your
current English teacher.
Choose another book to read over the summer.
 Go to our website if you need ideas for good books.
 You can buy the book online, go to a book store, or
check it out from a library
Read your books
Choose one project to complete for your Independent
book, and be ready to take a test and complete
assignments about your assigned title when you get
back.
REMEMBER…
 On
the FIRST day of school ALL
students will be expected to turn in
their completed Independent Reading
projects.
 The project explanation and any other
information regarding summer reading
will be on the Reavis website by June 1st.
