Instead of forming their own opinion, the author sticks solely to facts to help inform the audience on the issue. This article is written for people who have little prior knowledge to the subject and want to become further informed. It was a very informative article and it provided me with useful material. In this particular section of the book, the author provides the audience with The Bill of Rights (the 1st 10 Amendments to the United States Constitution.) He doesn’t alter any words; he delivers only the actual wording of Amendment 1 of the U.S. Constitution. Having access to this very important U.S. document granted me the power to analyze and interpret exactly what it was saying. Many people aren’t familiar with the U.S. Constitution and what it entails but through this page in the book I was able to incorporate this into my paper which gave me strong evidence towards my position on same-sex marriage. It discusses how American’s attitudes on same-sex marriage have made a dramatic shift from 2008 until now. This helps support my argument with by grounding a claim I made with evidence. Not only did this article help ground a claim but it helped me rethink the issue in a specific way and lead me to make another claim. Different age group’s views on same-sex marriage never came to mind until after reading this date but the information it provided gave me another idea and helped me form another claim. Dreier, Peter. In this article, the author explains the Supreme Courts role in the issue of same-sex marriage. He explains how two cases have been heard and Supreme Court justices will be asked to rule on them. He argues in favor of same-same marriage but provides both sides to the issue and the possible decisions the Supreme Court could make. This article helped me further understand my issue by providing me with information. It also made a key comparison about another Supreme Court case (Loving v. By stating that 9 million American adults (4% of the population) identified as being either gay or lesbian it made me rethink the issue in a specific way. It provides the audience with the words from the second section of the Declaration of Independence which state that Americans have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This helped support a claim with evidence by reminding me about the Core Democratic Values I learned about so long ago. Instead, he states both the pros and cons to same-sex marriage. Before reviewing this document, I never viewed same-sex marriage as minority discrimination but this helped me rethink of the issue in that specific way. Chesler, Ariel. In this article, the author argues in favor of same-sex marriage. The author himself was raised by a samesex couples (lesbians) and argues that same-sex couples treat their children with the same love as heterosexual couples. This helped support one of my claims with evidence from someone who is a very reliable source having been raised by a same-sex couple.
