ASSESSMENT PHOTO ALBUM
PURPOSE OF THE PHOTO ALBUM

This photo album is designed for our
interdisciplinary unit of World History and
English Language Arts, to serve as an exciting
guide of what assessments to prepare for as
we decide the best way to meet the goals for
this unit!
LEARNING GOALS (PERFORMANCE)
Students will create and conduct a
presentation on the key concepts and valuable
information associated with a major world
religion.
 Students will oversee a follow-up assignment
that their peers will complete to help them
better understand what was presented on a
particular world religion.

LEARNING GOALS (PERFORMANCE)
LEARNING GOALS (REFLECTIVE)
Students will identify what the most important
steps to follow are in verifying information found in
research through a report that also highlights the
planning process throughout the project.
 Students will complete a self and group
assessment and detailed written reflection to
explain what the difficulties were in assuming the
role of a teacher and producing an informative
lesson from start to finish (planning, presentation,
assessments, grading, etc.).

LEARNING GOALS (REFLECTIVE)
DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT (HOOK)
“What would you do if you could become the
teacher in Mr. Bourne’s World History class for
a day and Mr. Bourne would be the student?
What type of instruction would you use, where
your classmates would still learn?”
*FREE WRITE*
DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT (PRIOR KNOWLEDGE)

DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT (FAMILY/COMMUNITY)

Students will complete a written reflection, in
an effort to have the students understand that
this project is beyond just a research project on
world religions but that it provides an
opportunity to test and improve on skills that
they may very well need given the changing
climate of our community, by answering
questions such as…….
DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT (FAMILY/COMMUNITY)
Family/Community Written Response Reflection
Directions: On a separate sheet of paper respond, in depth, to the following
questions. Do not include your name. **You are not required to share information that
is sensitive. You may choose to answer anything that you are comfortable with.
1. How long have you (and your immediate family) lived in Niles?
2. Have you had other family in Niles longer?
3. What do your parents do for a living? What company do they work for and where?
4. If you answered the previous question, how long have your parents worked there?
5. Do you know what your parents did before their current jobs?
6. Have you had a family member affected by the poor economy of the last 10 years?
7. What is your view of Niles, as a community? How has that view changed in the years that
you have lived here?
8. What do you see yourself doing for a living? Where do you intend to live and fulfill that
dream?
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT (INFORMAL)
Oral questioning in the lab to make sure that
they have the important understandings for
their religion and that they are on the right
track in terms of organizing their presentations
appropriately.
 Small-group need based instruction. Example:
Scheduled lab lesson on PowerPoint
animations.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT (INFORMAL)
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT (FORMAL)


Groups will be required to sit down, take out their rubrics
given to them at the beginning of the unit, and assess
where their overall project is at. A graded list of what is
done, what is not done, and what help is needed will be
typed and turned in periodically.
Follow-up assignments that will be creative activities
designed to highlight the most important concepts
associated with each religion. These will serve as
important practice and checkpoints for understanding
prior to the summative quiz that the students will take
when all of the religions have been presented.
