Days : Tuesdays & Wednesdays Course Description: This course is designed to assist students in becoming better communicators. It helps students speak effectively in public. It focuses on teaching organization, oral communication, and listening skills. The course aims at developing students’ confidence as public speakers by teaching them the elements of effective oral presentations. Course SLO and LO: Course SLO (Students Learning Outcomes) 1. Understanding the basic components of public speaking 2. Acquiring strategies for audience analysis, topic selection, and organization 3. Learning how to use nonverbal signals, body language and visual aids to communicate effectively 4. Improving language skills necessary to communicate clearly 5. Practicing different types of oral presentations LO (Learning Objecttves) 1.1. Understanding different types of speeches 1.2. Identifying basic components of different types of speeches 2.1. Identifying what to include in an audience analysis 2.2. Selecting topics based on the audience analysis 2.3. Organizing the speech to suit the audience 3.1. Knowing how to control stage fright 3.2. Knowing techniques of eye contact 3.3. Knowing how to bring comfort to audience 3.4. Knowing how to encourage audience participation 3.5. Knowing how to design effective slides and how to use other visual aids effectively 4.1. Using the right intonation, pauses, stress, and so on, to achieve expected results 4.2. Using different writing techniques to achieve expected results 4.3. Using body language to assist communication effectively 5.1.
