 Both Feet flat on the floor
 Instrument balanced at the correct angle with both shoulders relaxed.
Technique
Right Hand (Bow Hold)
 Hand relaxed with straight wrist and curved thumb on the stick in the space between the grip and the frog.
Pinkie finger lined up with the end of the frog.
o Violin/Viola-Pinkie finger is on top of the stick
o Cello/French Bass-pinkie finger is hanging over at the first knuckle.
o German Bass-Stick and screw resting on webbing between thumb and first finger. First finger relaxed
but relatively straight along the stick, Second and Third Fingers curved in mouth of frog, and pinkie
curved on the flat side of the ferrule.
Left Hand
 Straight wrist
 Curved fingers with the tips of the fingers stopping the strings.
 Relaxed thumb opposite the second finger.
Tone Quality-The character of the sound achieved in performance on an instrument.
Intonation-The degree to which pitch is accurately produced in performance
Note Accuracy-The performance of the correct pitch for the right amount of time with the correct dynamic and
articulation.
Rhythm-The pattern of movement in time
Articulation/Bowing-In performance, the characteristics of attack and decay of tones and the means by which these
characteristics are produced
Tempo-The speed at which music is performed
Dynamics-The aspect of music relating to degrees of loudness
Phrasing- Phrasing relates to the manner of playing the individual notes of a particular group of consecutive notes; and
the way they are weighted and shaped relative to one another in time.
Balance and Blend-the ensemble is playing or singing together in such a way that each part maintains its relative importance within the
context of that piece or song.
Musicianship/Preparation-student demonstrated knowledge, skill, and artistic sensitivity in performing music.
