Shakespeare’s life
• Shakespeare was born in 1564
in Stratford-uponAvon,England.
• When he was 18 he married
Anne Hathaway.They had 3
children.
• In 1592 he went to London to
work as actor and
playwright.He wrote 154 poems
and 37 plays.
• He died a rich man in 1616 and
he gave most of his land to
Susannah,his first child.
The Globe Theatre
• It was built by Shakespeare and
his company in 1599 on the
south bank of River Themes
• It was a round building open to
the sky.If it rained, people got
wet or wasn’t performance.
• People who wanted to stay sit
or shelter from the rain paid 2
or 3 pence and they could sit in
the galleries.
• There weren’t actress because
women not allowed to act.
Young man played female roles
• The building burnt in 1613.At
the end of the 1990s a new
theatre was built in the same
site.
Romeo and Juliet
• It is written by Shakespeare in 1595.
• It is set in Verona.The main characters are Romeo (Lord Montegue’s
son) and Juliet (Lord Capulet’s daughter).
• They belong to two families that hate each other.They meet at a
masqueparty at Capulet’s mansion and they fall in love.
• They get married in a secret wedding in the chaple celebrated by Friar
Laurence.
• Tybald,Juliet’s causin, kills Mercutio, Romeo’s causin, during a civil
browl.Romeo kills Tybald to aarage Mercutio and he is banished from
Verona to Mantua.
Romeo and Juliet
• Juliet drinks a poisoned potions that gives her an apparent death. She
sends a letter to Romeo to explain this but he never recives it.
• When Romeo come back to Verona and he finds the Juliet’s sleeping
body in the Capulet’s tomb, he decides to kill himself
• When Juliet wakes up and discovers that Romeo is died, she kill
herself
• The death of the two young lovers ends the war between Capulet and
Montague.
Hamlet
• It is written by Shakespeare in 1601.
• It is set in Denmark. The king (Hamlet’s father) has been died and her
wife Gertrude get married her brother in law Claudio.
• Hamlet and his friend Horatio meet a ghost that look like the death
king.He said that he has been killed by Claudio who puored poison in
his ear while he was sleeping.He asks to avarage him.
• Hamlet pretends to be mad and organizes a play for the court, “The
murder of Gonzago”
• Tha play is performed and Claudio crashes away.He decides to send
Hamlet in England to kill him.Meanwhile Hamlet kills Polonius ,the
king’s conseillor.
• Ofhelia,Hamlet’s girlfriend, goes mad and she kills herself.
Hamlet
• Laerte,Ofhelia’s brother, wants to avarage her and he plots with the
king a duel.
• Hamlet came back from England and there is a duel between laerte and
him.Both are wonded by a poisoned sword.
• Gertrude drinks a poisoned wine and she died.
• Claudio is killed by Hamlet before dying.
• In the end, the king of Norway, Fortinbras, become the new king of
Denmark.
Films
• There are over 250 films of Shakespeare’s plays.Some of these are
films of his most famous plays including “Romeo and Juliet” and “A
Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
• Some are set in modern day,like a version of Romeo and Juliet set In
modern day in “verona beach” (Miami).
• Many films use a Shakespeare story but with new words and a modern
twist.
• Some films are inspired by Shakespeare but are not originally plays
that he wrote.
