WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE TEACHER’S ATTITUDE, IS IT ACCEPTABLE? “I NEVER LEARNED HATE AT HOME OR SHAME. I HAD TO GO TO SCHOOL FOR THAT” “IT WAS ON A THURSDAY. I WAS SITTING IN THE BACK OF THE ROOM, IN A SEAT WITH A CHALK CIRCLE DRAWN AROUND IT. THE IDIOT’S SEAT THE TROUBLEMAKER’S SEAT” “TEACHERS WERE NEVER INTERESTED IN FINDING OUT THAT COULDDN’T CONCENTRATE BECAUSE YOU WERE SO HUNGRY, BECAUSE YOU HADN’T HAD ANY BREAKFAST. ALL YOU COULD THINK WAS NOONTIME, WOULD IT EVER COME?” “HELEN TUCKER TURNED AROUN, HER EYES FULL OF TEARS.SHE FELT SORRY FOR ME THEN I COULDN’T SEE HER TOO WELL BECAUSE I WAS CRYING TOO” “NOW THERE WAS SHAME EVERYWHERE. IT SEEMES LIKE THE WHOLE WORLD HAD BEEN INSIDE THAT CLASSROOM, EVERYONE HAD HEARD WHAT TEACHER HAD SAID, EVERYONE HAD TURNED AROUND AND FELT SORRY FOR ME” PERSONAL OPINION WELL FOR ME THIS READING WAS VERY INTERESTING BECAUSE, THE AUTHOR WANTS THE READER GET INVOLVED WITH HIS LIFE , HE GIVE US THE CHANCE TO KNOW HOW WAS HIS CHILHOOD, HOW HE LIVED SEVERAL YEARS WITH THAT EPPISODE THAT LET A MARK IN HIS LIFE. I CAN SAY THAT “SHAME” ALSO SHOW US ONE INTRESTING TOPIC AND IT IS HOW THE TEACHERS CAN INFLUENCE STUDENTS IN A BAD WAY, IF WE GO DEEP INSIDE THE READING WE WILL FIND THAT THERE GOES BEYOND, MAYBE THE TEACHER SAYS STRONG WORDS WITHOUT KNOWING HOW DAMAGING CAN BE, THIS LITTLE BOY GETS HURT FOR TH NEXT TWENTY YEARS. WHEN I WAS READING THIS MANY MEMORIES CAME TO MY MIND, SCHOOL MEMORIES EVERYONE HAS LIVED A MOMENT FULL OF SHAME… AT THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY, WHEN WHAT THE FIRST THING THAT I READ WAS THE STORY’S TITLE “SHAME”, MANY THINGS CAME TO MY MIND, BUT ANY OF THEM MATCH WITH THE ESSENCE OF THIS BEAUTIFUL STORY, I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS A LOVE STORY RELATED TO PERJUDICES. WHEN I SAY THAT IT IS BEAUTIFUL IS BECAUSE I THINK THAT YOU HAVE TO BE REALLY HURT FOR WRITING ABOUT AN EVENT THAT HAPPENED TO YOU YEARS AGO. I WANT TO SAY THAT THIS STORY BRINGS US SEVERAL QUESTIONS, BUT THERE IS ONE THAT CALLS MY ENTIRE ATTENTION AND IT IS HOW MUCH CAN A TEACHER HURT HIS /HER STUDENTS BY SAYING SOMETHING WITHOUT MEASURE THE INTENSITY OF IT? AND IT IS REALLY FRUSTRATING TO KNOW THAT TEACHERS ARE SUPPOSED TO TEACH GOOD THINGS, TO TREAT STUDENTS PROPERLY, THE TEACHER IS THE MODEL FOR HIS/HER STUDENTS, SAYING THIS I THINK THAT MANY OF US, HAS IGNORED THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING A GOOD TEACHER, IT IMPLIES A LOT OF THINGS BUT ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT IS TO BEAR IN MIND THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENT OF TEACHING IS NOT THE TEACHER IT IS THE STUDENT. BUT I THINK THAT EVERYONE HAS LIVED A MOMENT FULL OF SHAME…MOST OF THE TIMES AT SCHOOL AND IT TEND TO BE IN THE CHILDHOOD, I LIVED SEVERAL MOMENTS AT THAT TIME, BUT MAYBE THERE IS ONE THAT WILL BE FOR A LONG TIME IN MY MIND; THERE IS AN SPECIAL EPPISODE OF MY CHILDHOOD BASICALLY AT PRIMARY SCHOOL THAT REALLY LET A BIG MARK IN MY LIFE, AND IT WAS A KIND OF PUNISHMENT FOR BAD BEHAVIOR AND THE TEACHER MADE YOU GO IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS AND PUT A DIAPER ON YOU AND SHE SAID SO NOW WE’VE GOT A BABY IN THE CLASS!! IT WAS SO SHAMEFUL I WANTED TO CRY AND I DIDN’T WANT TO COME BACK TO SCHOOL EVER, THE LAUGHS OF MY CLASSMATES WERE IN MY MIND, THIS MAYBE IS ONE OF THE CAUSES OF MY TIMIDITY AND LACK OF SELF-CONFIDENCE. AS HUMAN BEINGS WE CAN MAKE MISTAKES IT IS NATURAL BUT I THINK THAT WE HAVE TO MEASURE THE THINGS WE ARE INTENDED TO DO OR SAY BECAUSE WE DON’T KNOW WHO WILL GET HURT WITH IT. NEIVA MARCH 31,2009
