CUNY Career Path Programs Recruiting NOW
CUNY CareerPATH is a low to no-cost program supporting individuals looking to advance their careers by
providing opportunities (1) to earn both industry-recognized credentials and college credits and (2) to find
jobs in one of five sectors: Business, Education, Food Service & Hospitality, Healthcare, and Manufacturing.
In order to ensure career advancement and successful college transition, CUNY CareerPATH participants are
given career-focused academic and English language skills instruction, occupational training leading to industryrecognized credentials and college credits, academic advising, career coaching and employment assistance.
CUNY Career Path programs are currently at colleges across the city in the areas of Early Childhood
Education, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Food Service & Hospitality, and Business. To be eligible, individuals
must be/have:
 18 years or older
 A High School Diploma or GED
 Demonstrated academic and/or English language instruction needs
 Interested in getting a college degree
 Legally authorized to work in the United States
 Unemployed, a dislocated or TAA-eligible worker, or a worker at risk of losing a job or seeking
career advancement.

NYC Working Students Scholarship: Due Tomorrow: May 15
This $2000 Scholarship was established to aid students who juggle both jobs and school during high school.
The scholarship can be use for Tuition and Books at any accredited University, College or vocational school in
the United States.
Scholarship Deadline: May 15, 2012
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Current Seniors in High School attending any NYC Public High School.
Must have worked during high school during the school year.
APPLICATION FORM CRITERIA: (The percentage listed next to each criterion represents how much weight it
will be given during the Selection Process. Good Luck! )

CACNY Transition to College Event for Graduating HS Seniors: May 22, 4- 6:30p
This event is open to the high school senior participants of any CACNY member organization. The event will
give college-bound seniors a chance to meet and mingle with other college-bound seniors in the city as well as

Conference for Parents of ELL Students: May 25, 9am – 2pm, Javits Center
On Friday, May 25th from 9 AM- 2PM at the Jacob Javitz Center, The New York City Department of Education
will be hosting its annual even for parents of English Language Learners (ELLs) and former ELLs in Grades K12. Entitled College and Career Ready at ALL Grade Levels! What Do I Need to Know to Help My Child Now?,
presenters will highlight what parents need to know about being college and career ready, discuss the role of
parents in their children’s education, and provide parents with information about learning opportunities for
their children during the summer. Translation services, breakfast and lunch, and MetroCards will be provided.
The Javits Center is located at 11th Avenue between West 34th and 39th Streets. Pedestrian entrances are
located on West 35th, 36th, 37th, and 38th Streets on 11th Avenue. Although the registration deadline has
passed, you can still inquire about registration. More information can be found by clicking here.
CUNY Start Info Sessions
If you are a CUNY-bound student whose reading, writing, and/or math scores on the CUNY Assessment
Tests indicate that you need to develop your skills, CUNY Start may be for you. Start out stronger in college
by improving your reading, writing, and/or math skills and reducing the amount of time you have to spend in
required remedial "catch-up" classes:
 Improve your scores on the CUNY Assessment Tests
 Be better prepared for the challenges of college-level academic work
 Spend only $75 for the entire semester
 Save your limited financial aid dollars for college credit classes
 Have full access to campus resources – academic and career counseling, libraries, and athletic facilities

Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Applications Now Available
Applications are online at http://www.nyc.gov/html/dycd/html/jobs/summer_youth_employment.shtml. The
deadline to submit applications is 5/18/2012. If you have further questions about SYEP, contact NYC Youth

SUNY Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center Recruiting for Fall 2012
The State University of New York Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center is now recruiting for Fall
Semester 2012. We are looking for eligible New Yorkers to take advantage of our TUITION FREE academic
and careers programs. Fall Semester will begin August 27, 2012, but all applicants are encouraged to apply
early. We offer GED, ESOL, College Prep, Medical Assisting, Medical E-records and Hospitality Management. BEOC
provides free tutoring, job placement assistance and advisement to our students.

SUNY Queens EOC Security Guard Training: May 21
Get trained in one week to be a security guard. The program includes several certificates and help getting a
job. You must be 18 or older.

CSO Opportunity Scholarship: Due May 25
The Center for Student Opportunity's Opportunity Scholarship is a $2,000 four-year renewable scholarship
awarded to first-generation college students graduating in the high school class of 2012 (entering the college
class of 2016) enrolling at a CSO College Partner. A complete list of CSO College Partners can be viewed
here: http://csopportunity.org/college_partners/coll_partners.aspx. Opportunity Scholars are not defined
by minimum academic qualifications. Complete the application at
http://www.csopportunity.org/scholarship. ELIGIBILITY:
·Current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the United States.
·Neither parent has earned a four-year college degree.
·Must be attending a CSO partner college or university.
·Seek financial aid and scholarship support for college.
·Involved in extracurricular and leadership programs in school or in the community
Scholarship winners may serve as monthly guest bloggers on the Opportunity Scholars web blog to share
insight and perspective about their transition to college and successes thereafter.
GLBT College Scholarship: Due June 1
A new $5,000 scholarship, exclusively for US students pursuing a degree that will help combat prejudice and
bullying in the GLBT community (full scholarship details at: www.GayDatingSites.net) is now taking
applications. The scholarship will cover non-tuition related expenses such as rent, childcare, textbooks,
utilities and groceries for the 2012-2013 academic year. If you have any questions or concerns, please
