Mithridates of Pergamum
joined forces with Rome. The
Battle of Alexandria began to
turn but there has been
collateral damage. Ptolemy
and his sister Queen Arsinoe
are defeated. General
Achillas poisoned. The Nile is
Rome’s.
I was furious in my
rage. Ptolemy is
Rome’s enemy. I
had mustered 4000
troops against
Ptolemy’s 20, 000
under General
Achillas.. Ptolemy is
indeed a jealous
boy-king who must
be deposed.
On September 20, 48 our
flotilla surrounded Alexandria.
We were caught unawares by
the military and barely came
out with our lives. I knew my
rival Pompey was here
somewhere but what I didn’t
know was the tragedy about to
unfold. Ptolemy in a bid to buy
my support had Pompey
murdered but a few weeks
before my arrival in October
48, delivering his ring and
awful awful… his head to me
as a ‘reward”. I was sickened.
