HLA1 International Marketing
In this course the student will learn to evaluate and implement marketing decisions based on an
analysis of the internal and external factors influencing a company in an international business
environment. He learns the ability to structure these decisions in a marketing plan in accordance
with the corporate planning of the company.
This course offers an analytic decision-oriented framework for the development and implementation
of global marketing programmes. The student should be able to analyze, select and evaluate the
appropriate conceptual framework for approaching the five main management decisions connected
with the global marketing process: (1) whether to internationalize (2) deciding which markets to
enter (3) deciding how to enter the foreign market (4) designing he global marketing programme and
(5) implementing and coordinating the global marketing programme.
HLA2 Project International Outlook
The project International Outlook puts student teams in the role of consultants. Thus they are being
asked to define and analyze a problem for a company taking the point of view of neutral outsiders.
The project takes place in an international setting, that means students have to collect, select and
structure information which is necessary to formulate a final recommendation directed at the
management team of the company under consideration.
In a small team, students develop a strategic recommendation for a company which plans to expand
its business activities to new markets abroad. The student consulting group is asked to scan several
markets abroad, explore threats and opportunities in each of them and come to a final
recommendation which market to choose. Besides the company which placed the order, expects a
proposal how to adapt their internal structure and procedures to the potential new market entry.
Students have to search for top current information on the pre-selected countries, mainly via web
research and combine their findings with methods how to structure a market entry which is based on
scientific literature.
HLA3 People and Processes
This course should give students a thorough insight in a variety of Human Resource
Management (HRM) business processes. HRM business processes refer to the interaction of policies,
practices, procedures and technologies that influence employees’ behavior, attitudes and
performance.
Throughout the discussion, analysis and application of HRM practices, students will gain an increased
awareness of how effective HRM support business goals and objectives to finally intensify the
companies’ performance as well as their competitive advantage.
The main purpose of this course is to provide students with an overview of what human resource
management is and why it is important to all managers. Human resource management such as hiring,
training, compensating, appraising and developing employees is part of every manager’s job. In
addition to that, human resource management has to be considered as a separate business function
usually with its own human resource „HR“-manager. Companies used to regard human resource
management (HRM) as a means to contribute to profitability, quality, and other business goals
through enhancing and supporting business operations. The main topics covered in this course
include the manager’s human resource management tasks, global and competitive trends affecting
human resource management, and how managers use human resource management methods to
create high-performance companies and work systems.
HLA4 International Law
This course aims to give students an insight into the international legal environment surrounding
companies and individuals alike. It addresses the fundamental issues of the law affecting
organisations as well as the powers and duties of those involved in companies. The main focus is on
international and European public and private law, tax law and employment law.
This course deals with the legal environment surrounding legal persons in an international context.
The purpose of this theme is to experience the implications and complexities of the legal framework
surrounding international businesses. This is done from the perspective of a manager of a company.
When managing a company, various legal implications will surround the business of the company. It
is of importance that a manager deals with rules and regulations as efficiently as possible and uses
these to his company’s best advantage. The student will understand the theory and practice of
international trade and identify the rules surrounding free trade. The ability to understand and
describe export operations of companies, as well as the structure of international business is central
to the course. Complex situations have to be dealt with by the student in a systematic way. Cases will
be researched and reported, translating theories into practical conclusions.
