Who am I?
Miss Mary Pat Pavicic
8th year teaching at Aurora High School
B.S. in Biology from John Carroll University, M.A. in Life Science Education from Ursuline College
Currently teaching Honors Biology and AP Environmental Science
Assistant Cross Country Coach and Building Improvement Team Member
What is Honors Biology?
This is a pre-AP Biology course designed to prepare your children for the high level science curriculum that Aurora High
School has to offer.
What content will your children learn?
Introduction to Biology
Biochemistry and Enzymes
Cells
Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration
Nucleic Acids (DNA and RNA)
Mitosis and the Cell Cycle
Genetics
Proteins (Transcription and Translation)
Ecology
Evolution
Classification
What are some of the skills your children will obtain?
Study skills for advanced level high school and collegiate courses
Problem solving and critical thinking skills
Laboratory skills
Higher-ordered application, communication, and reasoning skills
Textbook reading skills
Conceptual, holistic understanding of the content
Self-monitored learning
What are some learning tools available for your children?
Multiple formative checks for understanding within each unit to help students and myself monitor their progress
throughout the unit.
Post-summative unit assessment reflections to ensure ongoing learning.
Differentiated instruction and group work to ensure the students are able to see the content from various perspectives.
Hands-on lab activities, simulations, and animations.
All PowerPoint notes for each unit are posted on SchoolPointe for personal access.
Notes are also available in the form of concept maps, diagrams, and charts discussed in class.
I am always available for extra help before or after school and am very flexible.

What is Anatomy and Physiology?
This is a college preparatory course designed for students interested in pursuing a career in a science-related area, health
profession, or who simply have an interest in anatomy and physiology.
The focus of this course will be applying previously learned concepts of Biology to the structure and function of the various
organ systems, along with their interrelationship and homeostatic abilities in the human body.
