New initiative – Globalisation Strategy

Based on the Council for Globalisation

Members (5 ministers and 16 selected rep.):

– Prime Minister (chair), Minister of Finance, Minister of

Science, Minister of Economic and Business Affairs and

Ministers of Education

– Representatives from Industry, Organisations and academia

Mission: To give advice to the government on a global strategy for

Denmark in the 21 st century

12 meetings from April 2005 to April 2006 lasting approx. 24 hours

(more than 300 hours of discussion)

Themes: Education, research, entrepreneurship and innovation

Outcome: More than 350 concrete suggestions – one of them to establish Innovation Centres!

Formation of Innovation Centers

• Only 1-2% of the world’s knowledge is produced in Denmark.

• Government ambition for Denmark to become the most competitive nation in 2015. Innovation is key to success.

• Memorandum of Understanding between DK and China on bilateral Science and Technology cooperation signed on the 25

September 2007.

• ”Innovation Center Denmark” is a joint approach between the

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The goal is to help Danish based companies and organizations to enter into the global innovation scene

• First center in Silicon Valley. Second center in Shanghai. Third center in Munich (2008)
